Red is easy to remove with a little heat from a heat gun, not even open flame. I don't do open flame on firearms anyway.

I don't plan on taking this one off though.

I've got the gears turning already on what to do for an adjustable stock for my kids, as well as integral suppression.

I need to see what this barrel will do first.

    Looking at rings now.

Got some Warne low rings last night at Sportsman's.

Will see how it works with Viper PST.

I have a feeling you won't like having a bipod on the stock. The forend area is flimsy and I feel it move every time I shoot mine from the bench. Mine will get a Boyds stock as soon as I come up with the extra scratch.

            Thanks, Dinny

I was just looking at Boyds blanks to build a custom project for my oldest daughter first.

              She wants the purple laminate.

Trying to decide what I will load first between 129gr SST and 140gr AMAX.

140gr AMAX showing intrusion, 140gr AMAX loaded to more than max COL, 123gr SST 2.245" COL

I'm pretty sure I can notice the difference in recoil between the 120, 129 and 140 gr bullets. Your daughter might also.

She won't be shooting it anytime soon, as she's 5. Daddy just wants to see what it will do.

I'll start her out on 90gr or 85gr light loads probably when the time comes.

The 129gr SST shoots well in mine with both 8208 and AR COMP. Not so much with CFE223.

                      Thanks, Dinny

I loaded up some ladders with LEVERevolution last week, planned to shoot them this weekend, but we had a major snowstorm break a lot of trees around the house.

I worked the ladders up to 32.0gr of LVR under 129gr SST in Lapua brass with Rem 7 1/2 primers at 2.305" COL.

We'll see what happens. I'll probably go load up some 140gr AMAX too.

I'm going to shoot the Howa and 18" Lilja side-by-side over the chrono with the same ladders.

Im kinda partial to the Howa as well. But noticed that flimsy fore end I think it was the hogue stock. The warne rings are one of my stand byes too decently priced for quality. Nice rig. I might have to check out and see if they sell the barreled actions. Had a boyds on my rem 870 was amazing how much of a difference it made. Not sure if I miss the shotgun or just that stock lol.

                          Good luck LR.

Flimsy forend? After shortening the forend on mine I was surprised at the thickness and stiffness of the forend. The stocks do kinda suck, but not due to flimsyness.

LR, do not be surprised if the velocity of the Howa increases some after a coulpe hundred shots or so but you probably know that already.

Since these are hammer-forged and a mandrel has to be removed, I'm thinking there is a bit of taper, so start pressure doesn't build like with a button or cut rifled barrel.

Once a good layer of copper builds up in it, that might explain a velocity increase, but I have not heard that they jump up after a certain round count. Have you measured that?
