    Howa barreled action buyers

What stocks are you guys buying?

I'm considering buying a barreled action model, but I'm concerned by the lack of stock options. I'm really concerned about weight, as I believe the huge upside to the mini action Grendel is its lightweight. I'd love to do a mini version of the Howa Alpine rifle, which sports a lightweight Bansner stock.

The chassis thing just doesn't appeal to me in a hunting rifle. Honestly why not just build an AR if going the chassis route (same ergonomics and probably equally awkward to carry in the field )?

Check with Boyds, now that they are making stocks they offer a custom service for walnut stocks that are pretty good. A friend went that route for his favorite Remington 788 and it looks pretty good.

I've contacted Pendleton gun stocks, and think I'll do the same with a few others (bell and carlson, McMillan, etc)

Sent an email to MPI. I appears they've made a microlite stock for a mini action mauser that is about 9oz before recoil pad and swivel studs. That would be amazing with a Howa lightweight barreled action. Throw on some talley lightweight rings, lightweight leupold scope, and it might come in under 6lbs!

According to their website http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/design...ment-gunstocks the weight is approximately 2.8 lbs. for their Classic replacement.

I emailed bell and carlson with no reply. They are my favorite rifle stocks . They made me a believer in how a stock can make a rifle more accurate. They aren't lite weight, but they won't flex .

Just got a response from Oregongunsmithing LLC (Pendleton rifle stocks). Basically said he's done a few, the stocks are custom made/fitted to the weapon you supply. Length of pull, color, and model are your choice. Stated it takes about 12weeks after receiving the rifle, and the cost is $635 plus shipping.

That's steep, but would be very awesome especially if this was to be a "lifetime" rifle. I think I'll start saving my pennies and sweet talking the wife. Now the question is 22" barrel #2 contour or 20" #1 contour. Is two inches worth two ounces?

Could anyone with either the lightweight or standard provide actual weights of just the barreled action?

EDIT: Just got an email from MPI stocks....

                    "Hi James,
Yes we plan to. At this point we haven't gotten our hands on
one to make a mold from. We can modify what we have if we
do a Complete Restocking. If you have a stock we can use to
make a mold from that would be great.

                    Thanks,
                    Lisa"

Looks like they are willing, just need a donor.

Just bought a barreled action from brownells. Let the insanity begin. I'm hoping to have an under 6lb rifle (with scope and loaded mag). "Mini mountain rifle".

Just sent an inquiry to Legendary Arms (Bansner Stocks).

Sounds like its going to be a great hunting rifle. Keep us updated can see myself doing similar.

Just put a 6.5 mini youth on layaway for my daughter.

Edit: I think I'm just going to go with either Pendleton or mcmillan as the only need the barreled action.

I just did one in the LSS chassis. Standard weight barrel cut to 16 and threaded. I'm stunned at how light, handy and accurate it turned out. I love the AR platform, but shooting this little Grendel suppressed is amazing. The lack of action noise is very noticeable.
