    Anyone use a shooting tripod?

Looking at setting up a nice shooting tripod... something I will use with a Pig Saddle mount.
So far I am looking at a few brands/models.

Desmond 432 tripod- $239 with head. Has over 70lbs capacity.

Sirui T-025- $229 with head. Very light wt. and capacity is about 15lbs.

SLIK Pro 700DX- $99 without head. 19lbs capacity. over 70" tall when extended.

    Anyone running any of these?

Yea, the manfrotto 055 is a very popular one too... I just don't much care for the center section hanging down so far when in the prone.

Thanks for the pics... great shots.
I need to get out to Utah to do some shooting one of these times when I go to see family.

I'm going with a tripod setup as well.

I picked up an off brand CF tripod for $139 on Amazon with a 19# cap, and an import copy of a manfroto pistolgrip ball head, and screwed a picatinny rail Quick release to the ball head QR.

With my MK12 locked in (weighs 12# empty) it holds position, and the balance point is about 5" behind the ball head.

Have not had a chance to use it real world yet. Hope to in the next couple weeks.

Like you, I would prefer to have the center section designed more for using it prone, but I guess that is why I bought a bipod for.

Biggest thing you will see with the cheap Chinese camera tripods is that the leg locks will break, being made from garbage acetyl or polystyrene plastic.

Once those break, you can't hold the legs in place anymore.

I really like my Vanguard, even though it is a heavy tripod. I purposely wanted heavy, so my spotting scope wouldn't fall over in high winds when I get down with a shooter to coach them.

It has adjustable leg locks that are huge clamps with a provided tool that attaches to one of the legs.

Slik 700 is a stout tripod with a 15# weight limit

without the ball head about a hundred bucks

the manfrotto is the Cadillac but pricy has a great ball head they have tripods that will support weights up to 110#

So besides the PIG saddle and similar products, how do you guys mount most of these tripods to your rigs? One guy mentioned mounting it screwing a rail mount I assume to a camera plate quick disconnect? I was on the Sirui site looking at the heads and didn't see anything. Drilling and tapping is no prob. I was just wondering if they make something I'm just not seeing.

Also does anyone have any price info on those rolotube tripods from the UK Tiborsaurusrex did a review on? Browsed thier site, and sent them a email with no response. Sorry can't recall name.
                    TIA.

I picked up a couple QD picatinny rail / bipod stud mounts, took the bipod stud out, and screwed it down to the tripod QD plate (1/4" screw). The Picatinny QD just locks onto my rail section.

Well that's sounds pretty easy.. I know just enough about photography to know about QD plates and such. Thanks Sticks.

I was going to go the QD route but, I would rather have the Saddle mount so I do not have to worry about putting QD mounts on every rifle I own....
Not too mention if a friend wants to shoot his rifle off of it or what not.
Some of them QDs can run you some $$$$ too, multiply that for every rifle; it would pay for a saddle mount.

ADM makes a picatinny quick release that you can mount to a tripod head QD plate. (You could mount directly to the tripod, but you wouldn't be able to level/cant)

If you have the money Really Right Stuff has some new QD mounts that are insane! I currently run a Manfrotto, plus a 057 Manfrotto head for the weight of my DT.
