Optics for 12" and 16" Grendels

Looking for some sage advice from anyone that has it...while I wait for the 16" group buy, I picked up an Anderson 6.5 16" barrel to do some plinking with, primarily 100gr Wolf. I also have a 12" coming out of the group buy (hopefully within the next few weeks). I have the following optics available to choose from:

    1. Aimpoint PRO
    2. Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 in ADM Recon Mount
    3. Steiner 1-4X in ADM Recon Mount

    Any recommendations for:
    1. what to put on the 12"? my assumption here was originally the Steiner, but I've never run a variable on an SBR, only RDS's.
    2. the 16" - thinking the Steiner or Stike Eagle here.

whatever does not go on the above goes on a 16" 5.56 mid-length. 12" and 16" will shoot mostly all Wolf 100gr cheap stuff.

    Thanks in advance.

    5.56: RDS
    12" Grendel: 1-4 Steiner
    16" Grendel: 1-6 Strike Eagle

I am familiar with the reticles and features of each. My prediction is that you will enjoy the 12" so much, you might switch the 1-6 over to it. You might end up wanting more scope magnification too, when you see what this cartridge can do.

thanks! The missing item is what you hit "what this cartridge can do" I am wondering if the 12" will make the 16" not required. Will be running the 12" suppressed most of the time, just FYi. Appreciate the input.

Can you tell me where you got these numbers for the FPS. Interesting. I'm trying to get an average of what I can expect out of my 20 Inch Bartlein. I know I have to wait to shoot it out of my gun but I would love to get my Turrents built before the gun comes in three weeks or so from now. And if nothing else I could just have an idea

Never mind I guess 2580. Looks like every 4 inches is 130 FPS ......... well just ran across this from other site just now . Could that be right? I figure 2580 out of my 20 inch and it says below if this person is correct, that it's from a 24 inch

(I am wondering if we have any guys on here who have had the opportunity to use a chronograph to test the muzzle velocity on their rifle? Specifically 18" barrels as I know most published velocities are for 24". The reason I started thinking about this is I was looking at my box of SSTs and the velocity listed on the box says 2620 fps while the Hornady website says 2580. It says on the website the barrel tested is 24".)

You really should wait until you chrono your barrel, with the ammo it likes, or your own reloads before you order custom turrets.

After what I experienced last weekend at the Sporting Rifle Match, and learned so far about long range shooting (out to 900 yards), there is a lot of fine tuning that needs to happen, and the barrel from new is going to gain speed for a while, then start dropping speed as the round count goes up.

I am quite content just keeping an accurate dope chart and dialing my ranges.

If money wasn't an issue, that little March 1-8x would be sick on an SBR Grendel.

As soon as I saw it, I couldn't get it out of my head.
