    Factory Hunting Ammo

Got my daughter a 6.5 Howa Mini and she will be hunting deer, bear and cow elk if she draws a tag. From reading threads sounds like a lot use the SST for deer. She shot her first deer last year with a 243 and SST's and it worked fine. So may use that for deer but want to see what other options are available. Hope to share some pics this fall.

Don't reload yet so what factory loads to use for deer? Elk?

    Thanks
    Mac

Since my local shop carries hornady 123sst's Im just going to hunt with those this year (out of a Howa mini). I'll have tags for antelope, deer, and elk (hopefully javelina and aoudad too). If they don't work I'll start reloading or buy some barnes stuff from Alexander Arms. If I reload I would like to try the 129gr nosler accubond lr.

Sst, AA has some hunting loads as well.

PF has several hunting loads in the tsx, ttsx and the BT by nosler, they also have their own load of sst.

      Hope this helps sir.

        AA 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
        AA 120gr Barnes TSX
        AA 129gr SST
        AA 130gr Swift Scirocco II

        Federal 90gr TNT (varmint bullet)
        Federal 120gr Fusion

        Hornady 123gr AMAX
        Hornady 123gr SST
        Hornady 123gr ELD-M

        PF 100gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
        PF 100gr TTSX
        PF 100gr TAC-TX
        PF 120gr TTSX
        PF 120gr TAC-TX
        PF 120gr Nosler BT
        PF 129gr Nosler ABLR
        PF 130gr VLD Hunting
        PF 123gr AMAX
        PF 123gr SST
        PF 120gr AMAX
        PF 120gr Nosler E-Tip

For her to get some trigger time with the rifle, I would consider the Wolf steel case for practice, then get 123gr SST factory for game time.

For Elk, look at 120gr TSX and 129gr Nosler ABLR.

+1 on above suggestions. I really like the ttsx 100 grain. I'd almost bet that it would do good work on an elk. For deer the 100 ballistic tip would be in order in addition to all the other loads. Those minis are great little rifles. She'll love it!!

Did you receive the stock yet? Just curious.

Have some wolf. Will start looking for some of those to try out and see what her gun likes.

            Thanks

And hopefully Federal will have their load of Berger VLD-Hunting 130 gr. in the very near future. Midway has it priced at about 63 cent less per round than Precision Firearms for the same bullet.
