      Somebody on another forum indicated that this sort of mange is intentionally introduced in the 1900s to control wolves and coyotes in Montana. I did some check and found that this was indeed true. Montana actually passed a law in 1905 requiring it to be done. The experiment ended in 1916 and while it had some success, it was only partial and now we are left with a lingering, sustaining, biowarfare weapon that has spread to multiple species and across much of the US...




      The first article details some of the impacts the sarcoptic mite has on animals and notes the Montana experiment (first page). The second article has some gruesome photos documenting the nastiness impact of this bug on animals which extend well beyond the original intended targets.
