4 Hogs Down in the Wheat

We entered a 24 hour hog hunting contest over the weekend. It was a contest oriented more toward large boars and we ended up with large sows, winning nothing, but having a good time. High crops are always challenging hunt and recovery environments.

I continued to use the CBB MKZ 118 gr ammo and it worked well, but no necropsies this time.

      DNS,
A technical question. In those conditions with the thigh high wheat, would standard night vision setups have been able to see the parts of the hogs available in your video?

      Just curious.

Yes, but it would not have worked as well as thermal in this case as the hogs were considerably warmer than the wheat (cool night and the wheat was damp) and they stood out sharply. On NV, the hogs would have appear as black spots. If using supplemental IR illumination to aid night vision, they would have stood out more, but either way, any hogs below the tops of the wheat would have been hidden from view, lost in the shadows.

Both thermal and NV have shortcomings. For finding and killing animals, thermal has the advantage, IMHO.

You do well with it but I would not pick your choice of crosshair.

Which would you pick on the IR Hunter MKIII scopes? I also like the tiny +.
