    Hello from Kalifornistan

Hi all! New to the grendel and currently collecting parts for my first AR in it.
Colt upper(lapped and bedded), AR performance 18 inch rifle gas SPR profile, Larue freefloat handguard and scope mount with nightforce 2.5-10x24 and RMR, Geiselle trigger.

I'm really looking forward to putting this thing together and stretching its legs out a bit.
I've got a bunch of the Wolf 6.5 steel ammo for plinking but need to find a good round for initial zero and barrel break in. Is the 123gn Hornaday Amax load pretty much the standard? I see lots of references to it.

Welcome! Hornady discontinued Amax because the tips were apparently melting in flight and replaced it with ELD. The factory ammo you want to look for is Hornady Black 123 gr ELD. Unless you stumble upon some Amax's and they're cheaper - there isn't much of a difference until you get to extended ranges (>750 yds for me)

Thanks! Which is better at extended range the ELD or AMAX?

ELD. They did significantly better at 900 for me than Amax and both can do about 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups at 100 out of my JP 22er. The Amax tips increase drag as they melt and don't stay as stable as they start to go transonic

    Welcome!!

I miss the amax... I could buy 100gr amax for $21 a box. They changed the name to ELSE and now they are $29 a box... for the 100gr, they are the EXACT same bullet... I know the 123s are slightly different though.

Well hey, as grendel grows in popularity so does the price lol.
I've got about 5000 of the wolf 100gn for plinking and such. I'll probably grab another 5000 and as much of the hornady ELD 6.5 and IMI 77gn razor core (for my wife's carbine) as I can before our laws change in January.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

I'd be interested in seeing some of the Kalifornistan modifications to the AR that you are planning.

    It's pretty easy actually.
Exile machine hammerhead grip, fixed stock and muzzle brake.
I'll post pics when it's done.

I swear, I just move. Stock up on ammo, and move back when the Federal government gets done putting the thumb screws to the state government. If the state of North Carolina ever tried pulling that crap, we'd fry Roy Copper in Peanut oil, and serve him the the pigs.

Well, how to put this delicately...
We hard working, conservative, veteran, tax paying gun owners and enthusiasts are outnumbered, cut off and surrounded here. Our onlybreal hope is the NRA and Supreme Court.
And with that said god bless the NRA and Donald J. Trump lol.

Lol. I finally feel like If I joined the NRA I wouldn't fear any reprisals or backlash or ANY unwanted effects later down the road. IDK. I'm probably overly cautious who I support and give money to.but more and more I'm seeing benifits. And now seems like the time to mount the charge.
    And welcome aboard, their Grrrrr8!
