    How much have binoculars improved?

For hunting, I use a set of top-of-the-line Nikon 10x42 binoculars I paid about $1200 for about 15 years ago.The glass is unchanged but the exterior is getting pretty worn. ( I sent them in for cleaning, and I think they came back worse -looser anyway).
My question is " Is it time for a new pair"? Will a new set be sharper or lighter or smaller?

New will be cheaper, lighter, and maybe more features.

If the glass on yours is still good, and the focus is still good in both tubes, I'd stick with it.

Drift, did you send them to Nikon to be cleaned? If yes I'd reach out to them and tell'em how you feel that they came back worse, lifetime warranty warrants a replacement especially if they fubarred them.

The advancements in coatings, and those coatings being fresh, make a difference. Easiest thing is to just compare side by side. I do that with all optics. I order up two or three and send the rejects back. No buyers remorse that way.
