Not a Grendel, but it is a 6.5, and I'm one proud step-dad!!

Took my 8 year old step son out on youth hunting day this evening. Had my 16" Grendel and 260 Rem custom R700 as a backup gun.

Doe came out 500 yards away, so I turned the illuminated reticle on my NF SHV F1 and swapped him over to the 260.

She took her time grazing and slowly walking towards us. When she presented a clean shot she was at 287 yards away.
We were both laying prone on top of the ridge, so I didn't want to risk the movement swapping him back to the Grendel.

He took a very nice broadside shot (he regularly practices behind out house at 610 yards) made a perfect double lung shot and took a chunk of the heart as well. She did a big jump then face planted.

These 143 eld-x bullets are absolutely devastating at 260 Rem velocities. This is now the second deer, a bull moose and black bear taken with this combo..

Sorry, not a Grendel, but I love you guys and I'm a very proud step-dad.. she dressed at 145 pounds.

Nice work! I love that the rifle is longer than the kid is tall. Raising him right!

Kilco, absolutely awesome event! To develop this heritage is part of our calling as Dads. I remember taking my daughter hunting at a little older than that and then later, my grandsons. And to them, these are among their more precious memories. Will carry on long after I am gone. And they will do the same for their grandkids, someday!

I do miss my days of hunting in Maine. The deer out here are more like medium sized dogs and you are so limited as to where you can hunt.

Fantastic ! You have an 8 year old practicing at 610 yds. Wow! Give him a high 5 from the forum!

Awesome. You are raising him right.

Unfortunately in 10 years he will be outshooting you! *unless you start jiggering his loads.

                          Kilco,
Great story and pics. Good job on teaching him to shoot like that.

Dang, that rifle is bigger than he is! But he surely showed he can handle it.
