129 Accubond LR NOT Fur Friendly *GRAPHIC*

Took my new lightweight hunter build (http://www.65grendel.com/forum/showt...t-Hunter-Build) out for it's first hunt. I was thinking coyotes, but ended up calling in a big male gray fox instead.

While I was excited about the first kill with my first Grendel, I was less than thrilled with taking out half the foxes chest. On the bright side, the Accubond hit right where I aimed . . . took out the heart and he dropped like a Hillary supporters jaw on election day.

    Skinned it out this morning.

Good one. I'm no expert on these things, but I'd say the 129 ABLR is a bit of overkill for a fox ; ). Congrats. Nice shooting.

Dude, what did you expect? It’s a hunting bullet. This from its product description

“allow it to expand rapidly for effective energy transfer and significant tissue damage while retaining sufficient weight to ensure deep penetration into the vitals.”

Don’t blame the bullet. It did what it was designed to do.

I really didn't expect the bullet to stay in the animal. What surprised me was the level of expansion given the broadside hit with no major bone strike. I was expecting a smaller exit wound. I am very pleased with the bullet overall. Given the shorter distance of the shot, I am curious what the exit wounds will look like further out. I am going to try some set ups that will yield a longer shot for a little experimentation.

I could have used my .17 HMR for this shot and normally do for anything under 150 yards on fox and under 100 yards on a yote. I liken it to a pitching wedge while the Grendel will be my driver.

Not trying to condemn the bullet just passing on the info, bro.

                    Congrats.

DoubleNaught reported expansion within the first inch of penetration, devastating wound cavities on hogs.

It's a soft, bonded bullet meant to open up at long range from cartridges like the 6.5 CM and .260 Rem, so it does great in 6.5 Grendel for normal hunting distances.

I am having trouble figuring out just what bullet from a 6.5 Grendel would be fur friendly to such a small animal, LOL.

I was amazed, once, when I shot a beaver in the head with a .223 varmint grenade (broadside shot) and the bullet failed to exit the other side, but the bullet particulates were captured effectively by the skull that was broken up pretty good.

However, I just don't see that happening from a Grendel. Maybe somebody can educate me to the contrary with some non-overpenetrating ammo for smaller varmints.

Your best bet would be the 90gr speer TNT bullets... but even then fur friendly would be a stretch.

204 Ruger is my go-to fur friendly cartridge loaded with 32gr VMAX.

There are a few 6.5 mm FMJ bullets out there. They would be better for fur collecting. Pin hole in and should be about the same going out. Prvi and Lapua, not sure about Hornady or Sierra.
