Early morning red stag - one shot DRT

Took this red stag this morning from 155m with a 123gr SST pushed by 8208. First time taking the Grendel for a walk.
This one was part of a bachelor group feeding up a valley away from water towards some thick bush. I managed to stalk from about 400m to 155m, and then settled in to wait for a clear shot.
Slightly rear quartering shot entered behind the shoulder and jellied the lungs. No exit wound.
The meat is currently hanging in my refrigerator, and is the first meat to stock the new freezer after I lost all my game meat when my old freezer died.
Very impressed with the Grendel's performance.

Queensland, Australia. In this State deer are considered a pest (being an introduced feral species with no natural predators). No public land access. Need to gain private land access. No tags or bag limits. And then go from there. I only take for the freezer, and a trophy during the roar (rut).

Probably about 120kg, so 260lbs - give or take. Not sure how it compares to game animals in the US. Is that a small elk?

Nice harvest splashy.. That wt. sounds about right as a comparison to the large deer I popped 2 years ago... Close enuff for bragging rights- right?

The farther we go up northbound from MN to Saskatchewan area's - The deer get larger- like mega sized!

Are those Red’s similar in size to the ones in the Uk and Ireland?

Congrats splashy. Can you update the Game Knock-down Survey here in the Hunting sub-forum with details please?

Shot distance, bullet weight, travel distance from the shot.

ETA: Disregard, I see you've already done that. Thanks much!

Yes they are. In fact, the red deer I hunt are descendant from a deer presented to Queensland by the Queen of England - from the Royal Herd - when the State was formed in 1859. I like the idea that I live in a country originally set-up as a convict settlement, but I hunt and eat deer from the Royal Herd.

I am very happy to be able to add to the data. In fact, it is that list that confirmed my choice of purchasing the calibre, what projectiles to use, and what to use them on. So thanks to all who have started and contributed to it.

I would say closer to a decent mule deer or really big whitetail. Most bull elk are going to be at least 400 lbs.
