    Interesting First Bear of Season

Because it ended up being a bear. Work was slow yesterday so i left a little early got into the stand .5hr before sunset. No deer but a big bear ended up on the dinner plate. 400+lbs. Check station said biggest head of the year by far. 60yrds, bullet perfect behind shoulder blade. Came out chest and through opposite arm stopping in outer skin. Dropped on the spot maybe crawled 3ft. The ammount of fat and meat is incredible!

You can see entry wound. Bullet came out chest and did major intertal damage.

Pile of fat. Slippery stuff. Might make a good gun lube.

My hand is at the knee joint. Glad the deep freezer had room.

Skinned it out with head. Left it out spread for a cold night then folded it up skin on skin. In freezer now. So far I've only talked to one place. 1600.00 for head on rug.

Stand I shot it from on another day. I carved the kuksa from a wild cherry tree on farm.

Great story and a really nice bear! Keep all that fat and render it down. It makes for great cooking lard. We just had home made doughnuts the other day fried in bear lard.... yummy!

Congrats. I would rather take a bear than a deer. Never taken either so I would not be picky.

Bear fat was highly prized back in the old days, made awesome pie crust!
