    First deer with Grendel

    IMG951605.jpg

It all worked quite well. 120 grain Sierra Pro-Hunter, CFE223, and a CCI 450. It was about 175 yards down a power line. She only made it about 45-50 yards with a decent blood trail. I was a little concerned with the Sierra, thought it might be a little tough but it appears to have opened up nicely leaving a nickel size exit. I have tried very unsuccessfully to get the SST bullets to shoot out of both my AA upper (20 inch) and Mini Howa (22 inch). I have both the 123 and 129, one box of each. Once I put my bullet comparator on them I figured out why. Both boxes have a length variation of .010 to .011. When sorted I got a definite bell curve. Each individual group would group "ok" not great. I'm not willing to sort several boxes to take a cut for something that only gives "ok" results. The Sierra bullets were like flipping a light switch. Three eighths to half inch groups at 100 yards consistently.

          Congrats.

Another thing that really helps with accuracy with the 120gr Pro Hunter is that it's a flat-based bullet.

Plenty fine for 6.5 Grendel hunting in common ranges, not recommended for really fast 6.5s.

Nice ! Its nice to know they do get some expansion. I too have been shooting the 120 prohunters .They shoot just as well in my Howa .I have yet to get a chance to try them out on deer .

Haven't got the ProHunters to shoot as good as I'd like. Going to stay with the ELD M for now and 8208. Nice deer and shooting.
