The rush to short barrel Grendels

Just starting in 6.5 and my plan from the beginning was an SBR to suppress. Not hunting with it. Just got bored with my 5.56 and 300blk and decided to try another caliber for plinking. All my SBRs are suppressed.

Looking at Texkitch's initial range results with the 110gr Controlled Chaos Copper bullet from Lehigh, he was getting an average of 2630fps in his top accuracy node (not the highest charge), from a 16" barrel.

That puts a 12.5" Grendel pistol over 2500fps on average with that bullet.

BC is .405 G1

Expansion is down to 1500fps.

Look at the numbers on that.

Those of us who shoot stuff outside of the gun range like them because they're a handy size, and have all the ballistics necessary for the vast majority of shot opportunities we have. The fact that this caliber offers several excellent choices of bullets that expand well even at low velocities makes it a lot more viable option too.

Yea I know it is not a "true" Grendel. I was given so much grief I did my own comparison between the 20" and the 10.5". You can find my write up at

I think it will be great in SBR form. Using factory ammo it did OK with a 4x scope so with a higher power I don't there is no reason to get into a different caliber for SBR or pistol.

I just may build another with a SAAMI chamber.

My 11.5 Lilja and 12.5 BA have shot .5 MOA groups as did my 16" Lilja... Different bullet loads, and I have not shot beyind 100yd, longer distances will start after Xmas...

Next workup is a Faxon 20" heavy, not from the GB buy...

Any reason for no trigger guard on your LBC?

Hey Chris, just wanted to tell you that Redx Arms as some Sabre defense Uppers in stock 14.5/16 M4/Mid nonchrome/chromed 1/7 and 1/9. I ordered a 14.5" M4 chrome upper, got it about one week later. They don't come with BCG or Changing Handle.

Sabre 14.5" cl is interesting, thought I recall some of their barrels having a chamber issue? Possibly as I age I may not be recollecting that correctly.
