    Forum Member NFA Wait Times

Let's post your experiences with Form approval times.

    Submission date
    Check cash date
    Approval date
    Trust vs Individual

I'm seeing approval times all over the map, with some saying Trusts take longer.

12/14/2016 Submitted trust paperwork on TBAC 6.5 Ultra 7 and .22 Takedown.
    12/27/2016 Money Order cashed
11/26/2017 One tax stamp received by SOT dealer.
    12/13/2017 Nothing yet.
    12/19/2017 Picked up one can.

I am going to spend at least another $300 just for TBAC brakes...

Bought a tbac ultra 7 during the group by. Check cashed by atf 12/4.

I sent in a form 1 trust to build sbr back in May. Check was cashed within 2 weeks.

I chased the money order -- cashed 2 weeks after submission.

I usually check NFA Tracker for average wait times. They are within 15-20 days of being on point from what I've seen. Form 4 Trust are taking the longest right now and individual forms are the fastest.

Right at 11 months - Trust. Can't remember the exact dates, but check was ran in Dec 2016 and tax approval came in November 2017. I am fairly certain that they have regions for processing unless they did away with that. I am in TN. I were a lawyer I think I would sue, due to the unreasonable processing time. Can you guys think of anything else that costs $200 for less than 5 minutes of paper pushing?

Not that I am defending them, but evidently they receive literally pallets (10+) of filings every day, and there is only 10 or so people that handle the processing, and 1 or 2 of them do nothing but open them up and process the payment (of course they won't wait to get the money in their bank).

Someone somewhere lost my original filing from Jan 2017. Tracking shows it was delivered and signed for, but it gone. Had to start all over in Oct. Fingerprint, payment... IIRC my second check cleared early November. Current wait for a form 1 individual is down to 120, but with the recent shootings, I am sure they got another rush of filings.

Nothing kills the incentive of men faster than a healthy sense of entitlement. Nothing kills entitlement faster than a healthy sense of achievement.

One would think with the infrastructure changes in NFA branch to better focus on induvidual filings and hiring a total of 27 examiners now and implementing a barcode tracking system the wait time would drastically drop. This time of year is also the busiest time for buying suppressors because of the great deals on Black Friday and Christmas so I can see why at times there's a lot more being filed now. The process should be a click and send on a computer and not let it pile up on someone's desk to look at. If suppressors are removed from the list it would drastically help since they are the majority of filings.

One tax stamp came back on 11/26, but the dealer had an old phone number. I picked up the Ultra today.

It is by design a long and daunting task to purchase, file, pay, wait, wait, wait and wait some more. When the NFA list started $200 filing fee was enough to deterr. Now it is the wait. They will get legislation one day to increase the tax to comping ate for inflation. Should put it at somewhere around $2500 I'd bet.
