240 lb Boar - Tough Shot Through The Woods

Still plugging away at the high fence property, trying to deal with the unwanted hogs trapped within the fences. The owner thinks there are still some big boars in there, but I don't know. This is about as big as I have shot so far. Maybe the big ones are hiding better?

I set up to watch a feeder and while the boar apparently passed close to it and spooked the deer, he did not go to the feeder and I spied him about 90 degrees off east of the feeder and moving away. I didn't have much of a shot, but made the best of it that I could...

          DNS,
Great vid as usual. Good shooting.

On the shot, were you worried about deflection? There were some small branches seen, just wondering what it would take to cause significant deflection.

Well, I felt confident not hitting the tree trunks. ;-)

Seriously, most of the branches, most, were close to the hog. I am not really concerned with deflection in the last yards of flight causing more than minimal actual trajectory change. That same change close to the rifle would potentially be very bad, no doubt.

I have a buddy so worried about deflection that he won't shoot a hog in tall grass, even if the hog is just a few feet in the grass.

I also had the advantage of a hill immediately behind the hog 20 yards or so. A bad shot or deflection was going into the ground, a tree, or the hillside.

Very cool. What tri pod set up to you have? I've been thinking about giving on a try.

Keef, I use a heavy duty SLIK tripod with some accessories and a Reaper Grip head to hold the rifle when stand hunting, such as when set up in the back of my truck or watching a caller out in a field.

I use tripod Primos Trigger Sticks when stalking. I like the tripod version (can function as a monopod) or the monopod version. I do NOT like the bipod version because it can do this weird tilt thing between the head and legs if you are not holding onto the grip. I don't like to hold the grip. I like to hold the rifle and pan and tilt as needed to track game or scan.

DNS, great video, I had no idea that you were Carpe Sus until I watched that video. I used your Trail sight in video to sight in my Trail XQ38. Unfortunately, it me more shots than it took you, lol! Well done.
