An AK with the Grendel round, balanced recoil system and 60 round mag, I think Ive gone to heaven. The balanced recoil system performed 70 percent better in effectiveness over the AK-74 in the !986 Abakan Russian military test. It came in second place behind the Blow Back-Shifted Pulse(also known as accumulated blow-back or Lafette type or the AN-94) This could all be a pipe dream but it will be an interesting development to watch. Thanks for the info.

The AK107 using the counter-reciprocating rod is meant to keep recoil and muzzle climb minimized. It uses a cog wheel gear on top of a modified op-rod to push the counter-weight rod forward. In a sanitary environment, it might be cool, but I wonder about the reliability in field conditions, especially with the openness of the AK receiver and gas tube design. I believe the best way to do balanced recoil is found on the Ultimax 100.

The ULTIMAX 100 was definitely a missed opportunity by the US armed forces. A moving cog wheel and sand doesn't sound like a good mix to me. Trial by fire would only tell. I can only go by what I have read in text's and that means nothing. But if it performs as I have read it wood be a game changer' especially in competition. I'm sure the Russians wouldn't adopt an unreliable assault rifle , but if it was for export only I wouldn't bet on it until it was proven. (meaning I'll let some one else gamble their money first).

To be honest, I don't know why they even did this since the muzzle break on the AK74 already keeps the gun under control, although the muzzle blast and flash signature is unacceptable from a Western standard. Maybe they were hoping to eliminate the muzzle break, but there it is. Large muzzle flash = easy target acquisition for me.

The Ultimax and other US designs were an intentionally missed opportunity, since Belgium pinned their willingness to participate in the NATO licensed production of the F-16 on the FN Minimi. If at least 3 countries weren't on the bandwagon, it wouldn't have been financially viable for Norway and Holland, so they really needed Belgium. Belgium had us by the balls, basically, and we cowered. As a result, US soldiers suffer with POS known as the SAW to this day.

It will be interesting to see if the Russians start looking at the Grendel, because some of the Eastern European countries are looking at alternate calibers now...the Czechs, for example, in their quick-barrel change Bren 805 assault rifle (their improvement of the SCAR).

I never new about the connection between the F-16 and FN Minimi, interesting. Thanks for the info. Like I said before it could all be a market scheme to sell rifles etc, but there's the little kid in me hoping it's true.

CEO Maksim Kuzyuk is gone. This was not a military project, but rather just a project by one engineer along the lines of the
AK-200 series. The AK-200 series was just smoke and mirrors with only one firing sample produced. This will likely be the same.
The company has no orders from the Russian Army, they are just trying to stimulate interest, I wouldn't get too excited.

On the other hand Molot is producing a Vepr in 6.5mm Grendel right now.......

It seems like all they did was move the rear sight back a little, slap on some rails, add a selector switch, and call it a revolutionary design. Sorry Izmach, but not impressive.
