    Freefloat tube question

Its been awhile. I have been busy, but I have completed the lower receiver. Question for past experience builders, i have decided to go with an 18" mid length barrel. I'm trying to decide on the size of the free float tube...9 vs 11 (12). Would it come down to preferences or is there an advantage of one over the other, obviously the weight is going to be different. Just letting you guys/gals know I have small hands. If i decide to go with a 9" free float rail will the gas block be exposed versus a 11 or 12inch...or is it better to have the gas block tucked under the rail?PSA BCG.jpgSSA-E.jpgLower reciever completed.jpg

Here is an update of my progress.....3/4 complete, just waiting for the barrel. I received the Midwestindusty SS gen2 12" free float and i have to say it is beautiful and fits my small hands perfectly. Also started another project but have not decided what to go with just yet....either 5.56 or 6.8, we'll see.

Tank, Of course you know that if you go 6.8 on your other build you'll be permanently banned from this forum and branded as a traitor to the Horde!!!! Just Kidding.

Looking good so far and I'm sure you're anxious to get your barrel.

Hopefully i'll get it by next month, according to AA Arms my barrel should arrive by the end of this month, but well see. I'll go 5.56 if rainier arms ever have their economy barrel in stock otherwise i'm leaning towards a 6.8.

Just my opinion, but once you have a 6.5 why bother with a 6.8? 5.56 at least has the attraction that it fulfills another role (and universal ammo availability). I did the reverse; 5.56 then 6.5 Grendel.
