CFE 223 to use with 123gr B. Any body got data?

Got an 18" AR15 SPR looking to get data with the new CFE 223 to use with a 123gr sierra. Thanks for the help.

I picked up a couple pounds last week for some experimenting. No data yet, though.

Thanks, I currently use BLC-2 31.5 gr and was thinking about starting with that since there right next to each other on the burn rate chart. I figured it might be a good place to start.

I'd back off 10% and work up because burn rates aren't necessarily a good indicator of pressure. Also the density of the powder may be quite different from the BLC-2, so the same weight may deliver more energy.

While CFE-223 might show only on Hodgdon's burn rate chart, many others suggest a much faster relative burn rate for Hodgdon's BL-C(2). And while Hodgdon should know their own powder best, burn rates can change based on what cartridge they're used in. Point being, play it safe by starting lower and working up.

Count me in as interested in CFE-223 powder for the Grendel. Also curious about Power Pro 2000-MR.

I'm currently loading 29gr CFE-223 and 120gr Sierra Spitzers, no crimp, with an O.A.L of 2.250. I'm using reformed 7.62x39 brass with Winchester large rifle primers. I am also loading H414 with the 120gr Sierra's, I have worked my way up to 32gr with an O.A.L of 2.265. While I'm at it, I may as well admit that I am also working on 130gr Berger target VLD's with 28gr of CFE and 29gr of H414 with an O.A.L of 2.295.

For any one who wishes to follow these loadings I would recommend starting 2.5gr under my posted weights, I have no Idea how these loads will react to SRM primers, so load at your own risk. In due time, I do have a handful of Remington small primer 7.62x39 brass to work with but they are low on my list of priorities. At this time I'm not concerning my self with accuracy or velocity, my only goal is to get these loadings to hit a steel plate close to where my standard loadings (120gr Sierra SP and 26.5gr of Benchmark) hit. So far so good; they are all hitting the middle of a 12"x12" plate @ 200yds. I would be happy to answer any questions.

I was looking at Hodgdons website the data they have for CFE223 for the 223 Rem has about 1 less grain of powder but more pressure compared to BLC2. I realize that you can't compare the 223 with the Grendel but don't assume you can use BLC2 data interchangeably with CFE223, as was said by Drifter start low!

big g, This new powder looks great, but I'm going to wait. Soon enuff some data for Gren. loads will show up. Like rasp posted-the pressure is an unknown for the Grrr. You can't compare with a different powder and always get lucky. If you have to try, --start way lower. Hop up by .2-----.3, @ a time. 8208 is great for now-for me, accurate-clean-easy to load -plus enough data , between IMR, and the horde gang- to be safe. I jumped into unknown territory with my 110 Hornady I. bonds-- using only 8208, yet enough data is out there to allow me to make a decision on a safe start load. Wait a while, to see what pops up-as far as data is concerned.

    Tested

Thanks for all the replies I apprictiate it. So here's what I did. I don't get to the range that much so I decided to start were I thought I might end up so here you go. These are #'s off 5 shot groups but I'm showing the #'s from 4 and 3 shot groups at 100 yards.

    30.8 4) 1.76" 3) 1.14"
    31.1 4) 1.85" 3) 1.54"
    31.4 4) 2.02" 3) 1.61"
    31.8 4) 1.75" 3) 0.77"

At 31.8 there are no sighns of pressure that I coud see. I will try 32.0 and 32.2 if theres still no sighns of pressure. I think 32g might be the magic load. I will post my results when I get them. I hope this helps I didn't get to crono the loads, I had a technical malfunction with it while testing a earlier load. I also got data for .223 and 243 wssm with this powder if any one is interested. The powder seems to be good and consistent I think a little tweeking it will you prove to be great. Please feel free to post your results, I would like to see the results others are getting as well. Thanks!
