Vortex Viper PST 6-24?

I haven't had that much experience with scopes. From what I've heard the vortex viper is a pretty good scope. So here is my question, with the scope having ffp how do the moa adjustments work? I feel like they would be different. or would the adjustments be the same it would just be harder to calculate the distance to the target and the targets size? I'm puzzled.

With a Front Focal Plane scope, 1 MOA = 1 MOA on 6x, or 24x. It doesn't matter. The reticle will change size proportionally with the magnification. The Second Focal Plane scopes require you to have the magnification on one particular power for the angular measures to correlate to the real world, otherwise you have to use conversions.

With the 2.5-10x44 Viper PST, I leave it on 10x the whole time anyway, which is where the Mils correlate with that particular scope.

With the 5-15x44 Viper HS Tactical, the SFP reticle correlates on 15x.

If you get the FFP model, you don't have to worry about it. They are great scopes for the money...worth twice the price in many ways, mainly features. I just used my 2.5-10x44 to shoot out to 1000yds with it 2 Fridays ago, and was able to print a 9.25" group off the back of my truck, from where I was laying in the not-so-stable bed.

So a ten power scope will reach out to 1000? In that case i dont need a 6-24 I would actually prefer something with a lower power. any other scopes you would recommend? i will only be shootin a max of possibly 800yrds if that.

At 1000yds, I prefer a 12-15x max objective, but a 10x can get it done just fine. The Marines and Army have been using 10x fixed scopes like the Unertyl and Leupold M3A up until recently, when variable power S&B and Leupolds have become more abundant with the new sniper systems like the M110/Mk11, M2010, etc.

Mirage is hard to deal with on 10x, but as long as you hold center.

I have a 6x24 vortex on my 6.5 and love it... can dial down for field of veiw then zoom in on target ...
Extra magnification is nice to have and see any corrections necessary.

I know this is a question within a question but what would you all recommend, mils or moa?

I prefer mils, but it doesn't matter much as long as reticle and turrets are in agreement.

That one is seriously a Coke vs. Pepsi, or a Ford vs. Chevy consideration. Whichever you feel comfortable with. Just practice it and make sure your reticle matches your dial adjustments. It's simpler that way. That's one of the reasons people like the Vortex scopes. They actually get it and match moa dials with moa reticles or mil dials with mil reticles.
