Complete Noob
Hi All,
Well, I've just placed an order for an AR15. I got the RRA National Match A4 to shoot NRA high power. I would like to also (call me nuts) to shoot high power silhouette, using a Grendel upper.
The question is, has anyone out there done it or is currently shooting steel at distance and knocking down the targets?
Thanks,
Dave

Welcome. LR1955 shoots hi-power, but I think he prefers the 6mm AR, which is necked-down Grendel. How far does high power silhouette go out to?

200 meters. Most everyone shoots a bolt .260 Remington. They all say that they .223, even at a safe load won't knock over the targets reliably. I'm trying to find a ballistics comparison chart to look it up. Also they do have a 1000m silhouette, but it's moot as I don't have a 1000m facility in the state (WA) that I can shoot at routinely. Is there an advantage to 6mm AR to 6.5? Also would the "swede" be a good option?
As I said, total noob and no clubs in my area that are big into the AR platform in anything but 5.56/.233

I couldn't comment too much on the current subject, but good luck, and welcome to the Grendel board!

It will handicapping yourself to try and compete against bolt-gun .260 Remington, especially if everyone is running 140gr pills. I suspect the Grendel would still knock them over at 200 meters, but I would need to know what the plate sizes and weights are.
The 6mm AR wildcat is a solid AR15 1000yd target cartridge meant for punching paper at distance out of the Grendel case. It can run VLD's and VLD-type SMK's at 2800fps.
