    Greetings from So Cal

Building a 16.5" based on receiver by JD Machine Tech here in So Cal. Primary use is for hog hunting.

Once wallet cools off, planning on getting the AA 24" upper to put on my current WC SST lower. WC .223 is currently shooting nicely, see photo.

Purchased Hornady and AA 123 gr ammo to get things going. Then plan on reloading. Interested in feedback for loads for hog hunting.

Have appreciated and learned a lot from all the posts on this forum. Thanks!

Thanks Tex - I just started hog hunting - daytime stand and blind. Last trip in FL I missed at about 40 yds with my Desert Eagle .44 mag 10" barrel - missed hi and parted his hair. So when I got a second look, I put the borrowed 30-06 crosshairs between his eyes - to save the meat of course.

Thats why I wanted to build a Grendel. Although, I will return with DE 44 and more practice at 50 yds.

Because of the woods settings I plan on using my 4x ACOG on the Grendel. Your thoughts?

At 50 yds a red dot or irons should suffice but an ACOG would work too. Can you shoot with both eyes open? I know some peoples eyes won't allow it.

I assumed you were hog hunting in California but you mentioned FL. Are there hogs in CA?

Welcome. The main problem I have, especially with the 4x ACOG, is the unforgiving eye relief and exit pupil. The 3.5x TA11's are a bit more forgiving, but still not enough for me. Compared with a 1-4x variable scope, the ACOG's are nowhere on my radar at this point, and Trijicon makes some excellent 1-4x Accupoints with fiber-optic as well. That is a much more ideal scope for hunting all day long.

Yes - I was hunting in FL. There is good hog hunting in CA south of San Fran. See the link to CA Info page. Noted that the Grendel hasn't made the list yet.
