The AA mags are the old C-Products mags now sold by ASC. You can get them here: http://www.44mag.com/category/6_5_gr...ar15_magazines

The only difference is the stamp on the floor plate.

The ASC mags seem to be stamped out of thicker steel.

I guess I've been lucky- have about a dozen magazines with several different names on them and all have worked 100% so far. The AR Stoner mags I have look identical to the C-products mags in every way except the floor plate. I you want we can swap mags- I send you one that works on mine, you send me one you are having trouble with, to see if the issues persist on both rifles.

Let me get the new AA mags that I ordered and see if I have any issues. Thanks for the offers to help.

The bolt latch that I replaced was slightly different from the new one I replaced it with.

The upper width was slightly more narrow; there was a line where it rested on the lower and the new latch covers that mark up by at least 1/32nd in. Probably just grasping for straws :-)

It is still interesting that the 6.8 mags worked early on and later after the changes: the follower on the 6.8s was defintely a tighter fit in the mag well opening so the latch could not get in behind it.

Received new AA mags, no issues. Guess you get what you pay for :-)
With the AA mags the bolt latch overlaps much more on the blue follower, whereas the AR Stoner mags the bolt latch was just "barely" on the blue follower when it worked.

Just finished my 16" build - same problem with 2 AR Stoner mags as Gdaddy.

I bought 3 of the 5-round CProducts mags that 44Mag had on "close-out", and have had all 3 fail to lock the bolt open on an empty magazine. All 3 appear to have too much slop in the follower, allowing it to shift forward enough to keep the bolt catch from engaging. Comparing the blue 6.5 followers to my (black) 5.56 followers, the amount of forward movement inside the magazine body is quite noticable. I'm thinking about trying to replace the followers with "Magpul Gen III Self Leveling Follower". Any thoughts about doing this? Meanwhile I'm ordering two of the 10-round mags from 44Mag's site. Ironically, the 5-round magazines only hold 4 rounds. I see why they were on close-out.

ricsmall & vascar2, thanks for encouraging me to contact ASC. I checked out their web site but couldn't find any option to purchase just the followers. I sent them an email explaining what was going on with all 3 mags, and they replied with: "We apologize for the defective follower you received. I will send out 3 replacement followers today. Thank you for working with us on this.". Wow, talk about customer service! Granted, it is probably only costing ASC a couple dollars after shipping them to me. But still, it's nice when a company is willing to make customers happy.

I haven't seen this before, but I'm planning on ordering 6.8 PRI mags for my next batch of testing, since they allow 2.300" COAL.
