First deer with Grendel in MO

    IMG_0706.jpg

MO rifle season started this weekend -- hot, rainy, and yesterday 40 mph winds. All that notwithstanding, this fellow decided to go looking for friendship about 15:15 Sunday afternoon. First deer with the 6.5G. About 100 yds. Broke both shoulders and took out both lungs. Staggered about 40 yds and fell. Hornady 123SST factory ammo -- pass thru (as expected at that range).
My 2 kids who are hunters (the third (and oldest) is a vegetarian) get home late this week and I would imagine both will want to try out the new toys Dad built for them over the summer. The rifle in the pic is my son's (AA upper, 18" fluted barrel, MK10 handguard, BWA comp; JPE lower w 3 lb JP trigger, Magpul STR stock, JP SCS-15 spring; Vortex Viper PST 4-16 x 50 FFP). Best 3 shot group (actually, the only 3 shot group -- didn't have time to play with it yet) was 0.4" @ 100 yds.
Good stuff and very effective on our local whitetails. (As a shout-out, thanks to LR52 and Bwaites for advice during the build process.)

Way to go! I also took first blood with my Grendel last weekend, allbeit not as nice as yours. I've got several doe tags and plan on filling them all along with my freezer!
