Barrel is a 1in9 I believe but have not yet verified, as far as the action goes I am starting from scratch and though I would love to get a stiller or a panda action I don't really want to spend 1300 on the action of this impulse buy that said I am tempted to use a surplus springfield action since they are so cheap... Any recommendations would be appreciated

What's the length of the barrel?

yes a bolt gun,it would be quite an undertaking to make an ar barrel from it

the barrel is 29 inches in the raw, according to douglas the front 1.5 inches will need to be removed so finished length will be around 27 max

              6.5 SAUM...25". See http://forum.snipershide.com/snipers...-6-5-saum.html

Are Douglas barrels cut rifled or button pulled?

                  Douglas barrels are button rifled

Unfortionatly I do not have anywhere where I can shoot far enough to justify building a 6.5 SAUM, I was thinking more along the lines of doing a benchrest Grendel and leaving the barrel fat, that or maybe a 6.5x47 lapua or 260 remington nothing to exciting or extreme

In that case go the 6.5 Lapua.

I took one of mine out today and was splitting rabbit sized rocks on call from 400 to 600m without a problem. The wind was a bit squirrelly, but once I was able to spot the mirage sweet spot I could adjust for the wind.

123gn bullet, 38.5 to 39gn of Varget and you are into a fine accuracy point.

You could try a 260 AI if you want a little more punch with a short action.

I am not yet confined to an action so anything goes as far as length

You could go with a 6.5 x 55 Mauser. It's the "do everything well 6.5" Lots of cheap actions around. Lots of cheap brass and for that matter ammo around. Accurate. Older shooters will show you more respect, younger ones will be intrigued.
