  • My Boy's First Deer - Grendelized!

My 7 year old got his first deer in S TX Sunday afternoon. He's been practicing with the 6.5 and 300BLK, and he chose the 6.5 due to it having a better scope. Spike came out under the feeder at 100 yards, and he gave it a dirtnap with one shot! Hit it through both lungs, and it died quickly. So proud, and a new chapter has begun for me in hunting with my kids. He had ice in his veins and didn't get nervous at all. I chalk it up to a lot of range time. I was nervous for sure!

Awesome hunt guys. Congrats to a hunting family! Most of us had to start hunts at 12 yrs. old.

I was tentative letting him shoot this year, but he was popping steel at 200 yards with a 1x red dot on my 223 carbine, so he proved he was ready, and the Vortex makes it so easy on the Grendel. He found the deer on 8x, and I turned it up to 24x for his shot.

I told him not to show the picture in school, but he can talk about it. He has a couple boys and a girl in his class that hunt, too, so he has friends in the sport. He's been very cool and collected about the whole experience.

Good job, you might as well build you another Grendel, I think you just lost that one!

He knows whose rifle it is! He can build his own when he gets old enough. Kid has been watching me build them since he was crawling. He knows all the parts and where they go.

Congrats on a nice hunt and quick kill. When you said there was ice in his veins, it made me happy to know they still come that way from the factory.

Get him a Build Box for Christmas, and let him earn each part as he grows, so that by the time he's ready, he'll have everything he needs for a complete build.
