AA has been in the process of a switch to an Ion-Bond process, which is superior to hard chrome, both in lubricicity and wear, as I understand it. I suspect that is what you received.

I'm glad these are showing up!

Mine just showed up... it is black like yours roto-prop. It has a relief cut on the lug opposite the extractor. I must say it's an impressive looking piece of steel. My only complaint (besides the nine month wait) is the $16.95 for freight seems a bit steep.

Yes mine looks very well made and looks the as you described yours johnOD . Now if my barrel from Satern machine ever comes. I get a little worried when I e-mail them asking about my order and they reply back with no ET Yet for the barrel but ask me if I would like something that I had already requested in my original order. I must say though this is a nice looking bolt from AA was a long wait though. I was hoping to try and get a muley deer this fall with this gun but I do not know if I will have it done and a load worked up by then. Sure glad I have not been in a hurry to build this rifle. lol

If these bolts have a kind of sheen to them, and are extremely hard on the surface, that is nitro-carburized, aka ion bond, aka Melonite, aka quench-polish-quench, gas induction, and so forth. Very tough metallurgy that blows chrome away really. You're looking at a Rockwell hardness of 65-70 usually from what they normally get with those treatments.

The barrels I have that are nitro-carb'd will take a metal file like water off a duck's back.
