    Grendalized 198 lb. Boar

If I had any doubts about the penetrating power of the caliber or Hornady's 123 gr. SST ammo, it is gone now. Got this guy early this morning with an overpenetrating neck shot. The exit wound was a fairly massive 3 point star, the cuts of the star about 2.5" in diameter.

In the video, you will hear my barrel ring or ping after the shot is made. Anybody else experience this? I can thump the barrel with my finger and make it ring as well.

Not one of my better vids, but definitely one of my better kills.

Is your muzzle device forked? If so it's the harmonics of the barrel creating a tuning fork effect...

Thank you, PigOps. Yes, it is forked (AAC Blackout). I had no idea it would do that. Weird, but makes sense.

Yeah, they never seem to run to the truck!

The ringing is a known characteristic of the AAC flash hider…. it is essentially a three pronged tuning fork.

Nice kill, yeah the PING! is from the flash hider. I had the same one and got rid of it because of the pinging...I replaced it with the Wilson 6.8 accu-tac which doesn't ping.

How can it not ring if it is essentially the same design?

The way they designed the ends of the prongs.

You are funny, LOL, but while tracking was easy, actually getting a bead on him was a whole other matter.

I have been out 8 times in the last 2 weeks after this guy and 3 others have been out as well to get him. He was a very worthy opponent, wary, apt to run at the first sound or disturbance made. He has been very good at NOT coming at the same time each day on repetitive days or even staying for comparable periods of time on the property. There were times when I had him documented on the property at various feeders for over 5 hours and other times where he was there less than an hour and still hit all the feeders. A couple of times he came in and hit just one feeder, was there less than 10 minutes, and didn't show up anywhere else. We tried coming in at different times, different stands, played the wind, showed up early, showed up late, etc. etc. etc. He did very well. This is probably my most expensive hog since I started hunting in terms of fuel costs and hunting time.

He got butchered this morning. The bullet did a fine job damaging vitals, but did not hold up well. About 2/3 of the jacket was recovered inside while the core apparently made the impressive exit wound. The bullet appears to have opened up almost immediately on entry. The meat went to a buddy who was appreciative. He had no idea how big a 198 boar would be, LOL!
