I went out yesterday and did some long-range shooting with some friends. We were testing a new Know Your Limits rack my buddy had built. In addition to being an engineer specializing in prototyping advanced alloy devices for the medical industry, a gunsmith trained in two different schools...he also is a very good welder, fabricator, and problem-solver.
Here is his new plate rack system for KYL:
We moved back to 500yds, and worked over the plates. They had their .260 Remington's, one an Armalite AR10, the other a sleek bolt gun, and I took 2 Grendel's-my 16" and a 20" rifle I am accuracy-testing.
I let the other guy shoot my 16" Grendel, and he cleaned the rack down to the tiny target using my hand load of 31.2gr of CFE under the 123gr A-MAX.
Factory 123gr SST Hornady clocked 2602fps from the new 20" Lilja barreled upper, and was holding MOA with wind gusts even at 100yds. Vertical was less than .5" on one of the groups I shot with it.
I also made a 1st-round hit with my 16" Grendel from a kneeling position on a 26.5" gong plate at 500yds, first try of the day, and encouraged my friends to work on their kneeling and seated positions, which we did into the evening.
Made a new convert to the Grendel as well.
