I don't know that I avoid heart shots, but if I can make a precise enough shot to hit the heart, I can hit the head well enough to not have the hog run anywhere. As dnahoghunter on Youtube put it, "Shoot them in the head and you don't have to chase them down and you don't ruin any of the meat."
I have had heart shot hogs go down immediately and I have had them run up to about 80-100 yards. Usually they run.Kill a hog. Save the planet.
