I'm currently working up loads for the 140gr Hornady HPBT and SST. I haven't had a chance to get to the range in a couple months. My initial trip showed some promising results. Once I get them finalized I'll post my data here. It should give you a good starting point."Those who sacrifice liberty for security, deserve neither." Benjamin Franklin

Welcome. There is reloading data for cup and core 140gr class bullets, but not the 140gr A-MAX. N540 provides the fastest speeds, and a good start load would be 25.0gr.
You will max out somewhere near 28.0gr with N540. Data for the 139gr Scenar will be very close to the 140gr A-MAX.
The fastest speeds Lapua got with the 139gr Scenar were 2379fps from a 24" barrel using N540.
Do you have any reloading handbooks yet? There is quite a bit of data that can be used to at least determine start loads, and then work up in 1% case volume increments.NRA Basic, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, RSO

We collaborated on the forum and have published 2 different 6.5 Grendel Reloading Handbooks, Volumes I & II. I also have Hornady's 8th Edition, which has 14.5" Grendel data, as well as Hornady's 9th Edition, with 18" data.
You can order them here: http://ar15buildbox.com/Sitemap.html
There is a combo deal in the drop down menu. The include data from Alexander Arms, Hidgdon's, Lapua, Accurate, and Ramshot in Volume I.
Volume II was written with hunting in mind, covering everything from sighting/optics selection, rifle set-up, barrel lengths and velocity, to hunting bullets, matching bullets to the game, and extensive terminal ballistics testing.
There is also a detailed chapter on reloading for the 6.5 Grendel in the AR15, as well as 14 pages of reloading data in log book format.

+1 on the Reloading Manuals.
I just got my Vol. 2 in the mail yesterday and am quite impressed by the info. I really wish I had ordered Vol. 1 as well!
Back on Topic: I was given (150) 140 gr projectiles (Hornady Spire Point and Nosler SP Blems) by a co-worker and would be interested to see this data as well.
My midway box should be here today so I should own a functional Grendel by 2 AM PST. I'm putting together an 18" MLGS rifle and would also be interested on whether or not this barrel can push 140's fast enough.
My guess is probably not fast enough for hunting, but they were free so why not make some paper-killers out of them?"Bugout bag?..What's that? Is that all the junk you sidewalk commandos plan on humping when the SHTF? I'll grab a Nylon 66, a box of 22s and a poncho liner and in less than a week I will have all of your stuff and everything else that I need for the duration."

Not knowing the minimum expansion velocities for the 140gr Spire Point, it's hard to say exactly, however, I think that bullet is one of the units that Hornady made with 6.5x54 M-S and 6.5x55 Mauser in mind.
The 6.5x54 M-S has about the same velocities as a 6.5 Grendel, and there is 18" data for both 6.5x54 M-S, as well as 6.5 Grendel from Hornady, although Hornady doesn't list any data for the 140gr class of pills from the Grendel.
With an 18" barrel velocity of 2250fps for the 140gr Spire Point, you will at least have 150yds of expansion range potential. We really need to see how low it expands to, impact speed wise.NRA Basic, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, RSO

Seems a bit low on the velociter scale..
RS hit 2230 with a 160 carcano unit that I sent to him last year - 6.5 mm - He also pushed it thru the Bank Glass, quite easily .. We Bad -We Nationwide!
We went thru 1500 texts whilst doing this testing , love the Grendel neighbor. Soldier up - be a Marine!Last edited by sneaky one; 11-15-2014, 12:12 AM.
