    1st whitetail grendel kill

Well I have been working on getting my rifle together for about a year now. Finally got to see what it could do. A doe crossed my shooting lane followed by this very large bodied buck at 90 yards. He was chasing, but I got him to stop just for just a second. It was a quartering away shot. My bullet went in far back in the ribs and failed to exit, lodging right beneath the skin in his armpit. Not the biggest rack, but he was mature KY 8 point with a lot of meat on him.

Yes sir! I was disapointed it didnt' pass through...but it did penetrate and travel a long way through him. He did not leave a blood trail but was only 30 yards from where I shot him. 123sst

Congrats. The shot must have hit directly on a bone to not go all the way through.

Congrats! How was the wound channel? Any busted bones? How far did he run?

Just one busted rib where it entered it destroyed part of liver and lung before lodging in far side under the skin in arm pit area He was quartering away so my bullet went in kind of far back. It went through him about 2/3 of his body lengthwise at an angle. I waited a half hour before I climbed down and went to where I shot him. No obvious blood so I got back in my stand awhile cause it was still early I'm morning. I thought maybe I missed from shaking. Bout an hour and a half layer I went back to where I shot him. Walked out a wats to look for blood and he was just laying there about 30 yards in woods from logging road shooting lane I was on.

Good kill. Would be interesting to know if the single rib strike was enough to slow/stop the SST or if it was the 16+ inches of penetration through soft tissue that stopped the bullet. Do you have any velocity info on that gun? Either way the projectile functioned as designed!

based on how my 123sst drop on targets at 100, 200 and 300 yards I have estimated it to be around 2400 feet per second or so. that's a pretty rough estimation though using hornadys ballistic calculator and trying different numbers for velocity until it matched my actual bullet drop at those ranges. it destroyed a lot of soft tissue and was a bit messy to gut. It probably traveled more than 16 inches inside him.
