    SH,
Doesn't the gas tube have to touch the barrel nut?
I am going to try the factory crimp die. I received it today.

If your variance was very small I would think accuracy would be the best but I have read many people report that is not so.
Your velocity is 200 fps higher than Hodgden reloading site shows.

That vertical usually means you need more powder, or your rifle is bouncing on the bipod. My 260 AI was bouncing on bipod and giving me about 5” of vertical at 800yds, loaded the bipod and started shooting into an area of 3”. Try loading the bipod and see if that helps.

        Ric,
I'm shooting from a Lead Sled. I pull back into my shoulder with my pistol grip hand and my foregrip hand.
With the foregrip I was pulling back on the front of the receiver magazine housing.
In the past, I would hold my hand around the foregrip and pull back.

That's similar to the nut I have on the 6x45 upper. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/10...aluminum-matte

It can not touch by being perfectly aligned and going straight through the center. If it touches, vibration will travel down gas tube into the block and into the barrel. Its possible - they had it centered pretty damn well on the factory assembled upper. I'm going to check to see if its centered before my next range trip and if I don't get anywhere playing around with COAL, I may bite the bullet and buy an ALG handguard and nut for it. Would be nice to use it with my Atlas bipod anyways and I do have another use for the Harris.

If you strip the bcg and run the carrier through the upper and feel the gas tube hitting the key you need to adjust the tube so it doesn't cause any issues.
It will effect accuracy if it isn't a smooth transition.
Driving an AR is better than the free recoil style used in benchrest shooting.

I made sure the gas tube was centered and entering the gas key dead center.

I haven't had a chance to do more with it. I would like to replicate my loads with small pistol primers since I got a 5 shot group of 0.625MOA.
People told me not to use small pistol primers. Something or other about blowing up or I'll shoot my eye out.

The CCI 550 small mag pistol primers are the same as the CCI 400 I think.
I've used them when I was out of the 400's.
                        I usually use CCI 450's.
I've got best accuracy from them and rem 7 1/2's.

I think I might have some of those from my 357 mag days. Thanks.

                            Hey Stonehenge,
How are the P dogs doing. Are you raining down any terror yet?

I have been taking a detour and getting a BHW American 30 and 6x6.8 to shoot.
I have posted on ar15armory since these are SPC and not Grendel variants and I wasn't sure how much more leeway I was allowed.
I also needed help in forming brass for these wildcats and Greg who moderates there developed the cartridge.

The 6x6.8 is really a sweet cartridge. I got a 0.75 MOA five shot group my first loading with full power loads.
I wish BFT would hurry up the 6mm Grendel group buy.

Been busy and even though we're in the midst of the worst winter Vail has ever had, it still has actually been snowing. Decent weather days get allocated to crawling under and around busses rather than having fun. Haven't been to the range since I started the velocity thread but I do have 50 of the lighter charge that showed promise in the high 2900s worked up. I'm also loading a ladder of 70 gr Nosler BTVs tonight and those little buggers are pretty damn sexy for a varmint bullet. P dogs in CO are safe from me until June since your not allowed to shoot them on public land from March thru May. Probably won't get to any until I head down to NM in April. Hoping to get to the range Sunday if the weather report holds out, but that's dependent upon my figuring out why none of the switches for the rear of a bus aren't working. Its not a fuse or relay, and if you have any idea of how a Mini Coach is put together, you'd understand that's no easy task!

                                I feel your pain.

I am doing DOT inspections on 100+ on highway vehicles and trailers...in the field.
