That should give you a side view of the build. The 'good' camera is down right now, so this is the best I can do right away.

The Free Float is 13.375 in long at the max point.

The Satern 28 inch barrels have the gas port moved out 2 inches beyond rifle length. I think Steve also drills the gas port small. The benefits for accuracy are significant delay in unlocking the bolt. I think the increased carrier loading from the CS buffer spring is also delaying it a little along with the additional weight in the "Almost M16" profile of the Anvil Arms bolt carrier.

I read a lot before picking the parts to bring together for this build and tried to incorporate as much as I could to create a purpose-built, long range target / varmint hunting platform.

Once I get all my load recipes on range cards, I intend to assist local farmers in eradicating their ground hog problems. I'm "seeking the red mist" at 1000 yds as a goal, and I want it on video when it happens. The Grendel doesn't have a lot of gas left at 1000, so I might have to get it with a 6.5 Creedmoor out of a bolt action.

Default Shiny Barrel Solutions?

But I *like* my shiny barrel -- and its still printing less than 0.5 MOA at 200 yards.

Maybe I can take some ghillie suit wraps and cut the glare a little when it wanders into the field.

Open to other suggestions as well... as long as it doesn't involve disassembly and paint.

I made a sleeve out of an old pair of BDU pants that slides over the barrel to the float tube for last hunting season. Then I found this: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=515030

Default Thanks for the ideas

Thanks to both warped and rasp65 -- now my excessively heavy, extremely shiny (in spots), long range weapon of choice doesn't have to go naked out in the field.

I don't think the groundhogs are smart enough or see well enough to recognize the threat, but every little bit helps.

I'll probably whack some ground piggies next weekend -- after I get to test some 120 gr AMAX loads this weekend at 800 yards.

If she's behaving at 400 & 600, I'll probably try to see what ~ 477 ft-lb of energy does to a gallon poly milk jug at 800 yards. The ballistics program says they'll still be running about 1340 fps when they hit. Hope the wind is down this weekend...
