  • Using 7.62x39 magazines

As titled, could I use 7.62x39 AR mags to shoot Grendel rounds?
    Thanks

The case taper is pretty exaggerated on the 7.62x39, creating a different feed lip geometry and cartridge presentation. It might work for one or two rounds, maybe 3, but there's no reason not to use readily available and affordable Grendel mags.

It happens that a friend gave me several of the 7.62x39 mags.

You could sell them and get Grendel mags if you have a Grendel. 25rd mags are $15 a piece through Midway, and 10rd mags are $17.

I assume we're talking either C Products or ASC mags. Did you get the 30-round or 10-round 7.62x39 mags? I've found that my 10-round 7.62x39 mag feeds Grendel better than 7.62x39. If you got the 30s, LRRPF52 offers good advice.

Thanks, I will try the one 10 rd mag and see if it functions in my (estimated) soon to be completed Grendel.

My 10 round 7.62x39 mags work perfectly with the Grendel. In fact, they look exactly the same, except that the follower is a different color.
