    Wood stock for Howa mini

Brownells is listing a standard walnut stock in the howa mini inlet. Offering all three barrel configurations too. https://www.brownells.com/rifle-part..._1500%2520Mini

Yea we had a post or two about them when they first brought them out. Late 2018.

They are made for brownells by boyd's gun stocks.

Must have missed it, did anyone try one out? I sent in a question on if the mini was scaled down/trimmer than the standard ones, but haven't gotten a reply. I may pick one up and do some carving on it to trim it down some.

I just pulled the trigger on the Howa action last week, when they were on sale again. I’d be happy to find the factory HTI stock, the lighter the better if I’m going to hunt with it. So far no luck and I’m just about ready to get the Walnut stock from Brownells. I’ve got zero interest in a laminated Boyd’s stock, everyone I have weighs a ton for it’s size. Hoping the Walnut version will be somewhere in between the plastic factory stock and a laminated Boyd’s.

Gotch’ya. And that does help, a bunch. Thanks.

I’m guessing the factory HTI is around 2 lbs. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d take the 7.62x39 action out of my other “mini” and weigh it!

I would say it's in the 1.5 to 2 pound range. The 20 inch heavy profile threaded barreled action sold at brownells is right at 4 pounds as it comes out the box.

That same action from legacy in the plastic stock is right at 6.5 pounds.

So 1.5 to 2 pounds is a good mark 1 eyeball judgment.

Laminates can be lightened up a good bit by hollowing out the butt and removing material from under the barrel. They are very strong even with a bunch of material removed.

                      +1, very true.

I’m just not interested in sinking/investing that much time into a modifying a “hunting” stock. When the factory HTI stock, as crappy as it is, still checks enough of the boxes for me. At least for now.
