i just got mine installed. thrilled. looks awesome. functions great. i have too big of fingers and my rail is too close for me to get things loaded from the top. no problem. flip it over, use that great oberndorf latch, drop them in, close the floorplate. loaded. sweet.

I switched to the Burris 2 piece steel bases from the Outer Impact rail and the rings are Warne low rings with a 44mm objective scope.
It was the only way I could get my fat thumb in there to push the cartridges down.

Two comments: The feed from this rig is super smooth. And, shooting single shot all you have to do is throw em in and they chamber slick as frog fur.

I see that the flush floor plates are available on the website now. I was wondering- it was stated that they hold 4 rounds of Grendel, correct? What about the .223? Ive done the magazine chop on both of mine and the shortened factory magazine holds 4 rounds of Grendel but 7 rounds of .223- does the flush floor plate also hold more rounds in the .223 version? Also, same COAL max for the .223 version?

The 223 version isn't finished yet, my goal is 5 rounds capacity but the final round capacity will depend on the internal geometry and feed reliability. The 223 version should have the same internal length as the Grendel version.

These firearm related rabbit holes we tend to go down can accumulate a lot of money.
Somehow after upgrading a $400 rifle can turn into a $1000 money pit in the matter of minutes.
I will probably buy the Burris bases as recommeneded by HPK, but I have thought about removing my Outer Impact rail and just cutting into 2 separate pieces. After cutting it just spray a little black paint on it and reinstall.
Haven't made up my mind yet.

Isn't that the truth, I only started making parts because I was unhappy with the plastic parts on my own rifles. Things escalated pretty quickly after that LOL.

If you do decided to cut down the outer impact rail. Cut it while it's installed on the rifle. That way the two peices will stay aligned and true too each other.

What he said. Also, Talley has their lightweight two-piece mounts for a Weatherby Vanguard that fit on these Howas perfectly. Ive had the ones listed as part number 930734 on my .223 Mini with a Leupold 2-7 for years now. Looks great on these tiny rifles.

And back to Jefferson Outdoor, any idea if you could get a mag box/follower to feed Dasher rounds? A new barrel for my Grendel set up to run an 85 Hornady Interbond or 90 Sierra Gamechanger in a Dasher with a flush floor plate(or, even better, a blind magazine in a McMillan Hunters Edge- which they recently told me by phone that they can inlet for the Mini) would make pretty much the ultimate little deer rifle where 6mm is the legal minimum.

The biggest issue I see is that the dasher uses a larger case head so the centerfeed box would have to be modified to let the round sit high enough to be picked up by the bolt, you would also be limited to in O.A.L.

If Im remembering correctly, didnt you say that the new flush floor plate would allow a COAL or nearly 2.5? If so, thats more than enough for a 6 Dasher- as long as it could be made to feed the slightly fatter round properly.

You are correct, it would just be a matter of making an internal box designed to feed the fatter round.

isn't a 6mm Dasher based upon a 0.473" case head diameter ? i.e. 308 Win, 30-06, 8mm mauser, etc. the mini howa bolt face would have to be opened up by a gunsmith/machinist type person, if the 6mm Dasher is actually using a bigger cartridge diameter than the 6.5 Grendel case, correct? and would the extractor need modification?? would it be easier to just re-barrel the 6.5 Grendel to 6mm PPC if you want a 6mm round, since they both share the same case head diameter?? did i miss something?

I have a Winchester mdl 70 heavy bbl in 22-250 that will be a excellent candidate for a 6 Dasher in the near future, perhaps if a $1200.00 check from the government comes my way

Why go through the isssue of a bolt head alteration or change for a Dasher when the 6mm AR is already available and apparently the new 6mmARC wil be coming out, both which utilize the Grendel bolt.

Yes, a Dasher would require more work than a PPC/ARC/Grendel/AR version. A Dasher would provide a bit more case capacity for more velocity AND the use of Varget. Along those lines, a 6GT would even fit in this mag box with all but a few 6mm bullets and offer even more velocity- especially with the new Staball6.5 powder.
