Ahh...a mod over there banned me on Saturday night because I quoted a guy and I said "You are NOT wrong." The guy was saying how ARF was in it for money and he had something bad to say about the mods. I didn't say F the mods, but I guess I got banned because I quoted his post. BTW, I've been with ARF over 20 years, so they are about making money. Like goatboy didn't know that Amazon was liberal?

Munchie,

Sorry to hear you feel betrayed for speaking your mind, and your experience made me think about all this.

Seems an entitlement to an opinion (free speech) is all well and good as long as it is within the guidelines of the medium. Face to face is fine in a public space, as long as it is not land owned by someone else and that includes the internet. Which highlights the nature of Trump's Twitter ban. Twitter, Facebook, Twitch, Parler, Gab and the rest belong to someone, and we're just all guests - fueling their profits, with only privilege. These sites and forums often exist to make money, or at least morph into platforms to make money. To be fair, the running costs of the site has to be paid for somehow and if by temptation or design they end up profit and loss businesses, then that's just capitalism.

Liveleak is a classic example. Originally touted as a raw alternative to muzzled, sanitised mainstream news services it has morphed recently into an advertising platform, which in turn has encouraged the Mods to clean up the videos and posters behind the more politically incorrect comments. I have to admit, that includes me, I have been banned. The site owners now pander to the advertisers and corporate responsibility, turning it into the very medium it originally claimed to be not. Torn between advertisers and their revenue, and posters unwilling to pay, do you blame them?

What I like about this site is that Stan, as annoying as he is/was, was tolerated for so long. Like a chicken wondering into a wolves den arguing about eating meat. But, the Mods tolerated him, even stuck up for him on occasion, until they ran out of patience. I suspect it was as much his argumentative nature than covert anti-gun stance and again, that's what I like about this site. But, to those who are afraid of firearms we are deviants and this site with its strong pro-2A rhetoric is anathema. Like Lemonaid making that insightful Matrix analogy, if you can't change their minds, then stop them from speaking - shut down their mouth (mediums).

(Edit, Stan just contacted me on a PM wanting to argue my view about his place on the Forum - I have censored him using the Ignore list - which makes me a social media censurer - LOL!).

Interestingly, other world luminaries who have criticised Trump in the past are concerned about Big Tech controlling the conversation as well.

German Chancellor Merkel labels Trump's ban as "problematic".

Alexei Navalny (Russian Putin critic and recent poisoning victim) likens it to state sponsored censorship - he would know.

Hancock (UK Health Minister) likens it to an editorial decision. The medium is deciding what can and cannot be said.

Ironically, Zuckerberg is on record saying the President would be given a lot of leeway on Twitter because his views are important. Not anymore.

Not the first time Big tech has controlled the voice however. For example Bolsanaro's comments about Covid in Brazil. And won't be the last time a platform decides what its guests can and cannot say.

My point is, Trump needs to purchase his own social media server; then he can say what he wants and do exactly what he is complaining about being done to him; censor anyone who doesn't agree with him. Up until now he has been censuring his opponents. If he owned the medium he could censor them as well.

Trump can afford to start his own social media platform and/or network.

The problem with ARF mods is that they allowed those they know are trolls for the left to type whatever they want. ARF mod even started a thread telling old members to be nice to new members "or else." It's cool as I'm not going to be part of a forum that has double standards. It's funny that ARF is a so called supporter of 2A, but when it comes to 1A it doesn't seem as important to them.

Will Trump also purchase/create a bank and credit company? Are our rights so delicate that we must rely on the stature of just one man? Do they require a hero?

It is not going to be that easy for Trump to do it.
He likes doing things with other people's money, and he has pissed off a lot of corporate people.
There are major corporations suspending any political donations to R's who signed on to the steal campaign/electoral college protests, because, you know, insurrection isn't good for business.

What was mentioned, which might be his best way to keep his voice heard, is to get his own show on some network.

He also has a couple financial shitstorms on the horizon.

IRS. I am not sure, I think the figure was in the 70M-120M range for various exemptions claimed which the IRS has been going over for a couple years and will reject.
They have been postponing, so he can't influence the outcome while in office.

New York. Multiple things with Trump organization returns. Some stuff with the family retreat. A big deduction allowed for environment purposes and stuff is being challenged.

Banking. Deutsche Bank cut ties. His personal bank in NY cut ties.

Other global illuminaries are stupid idiots comparing it to censorship (as is anyone in general).

Private companies don't have to do business with people they don't want to.

For an analogy: Trump is a gay wedding cake and the other companies are Christian Bakeries. This is a recent legal case about a company being sued because they wouldn't do business with a client because of religion.

Also in this case, Trump and his supporters interfered with the electoral process, have issued death threats, stole, vandalized, trespassed, defecated in the Capitol building, organized the kidnapping of a governor, interfered in a federal election (again) and killed a police officer (because they respect law and order).

So for the portion of America that doesn't think that erecting a scaffold on the Capitol building steps is patriotic or issuing multiple threats of further violence should be enabled based on hollow election fraud theories, its pretty much common sense not to enable further actions on their platforms.

As for Zuckerberg, Facebook's business model is engagement. This is done by sending people into the cesspool algorithms determine is suitable for them, irregardless of how vile it is. Keep them engaged and coming back, and collect all the data you can to sell to marketing and other companies.

mateba,

Interesting you conflate "one man" (obviously Trump), and "hero" in the same post. Be careful with your loyalty, it might not go both ways.

Talking about bank/credit companies also involved, I read sex workers are complaining the current credit squeeze on Pornhub is affecting their ability to earn an income. Companies like VISA are reacting to a NYC investigative story claiming underage uploads and rape. No doubt the owners of the site are suffering also. I've also read (on this site) posters talking about outdoor chains de-stocking semi-autos after mass murders committed by unhinged nutters. Cause-driven business strategies are not new however, but seem to be growing. In 2003 the Kimberley system of diamond certification was enacted, to satisfy customers their diamonds were not sourced by conflict and exploitation ('Blood diamonds'). No doubt that has affected certain mines in Africa. Nike came under fire years ago for underage workers in their offshore factories. Nike's right to be left alone to sell shoes is only a privilege after all.

My view, yes our rights are delicate and require defending by everyone, not just one man, and certainly not the man you are referring to. At least not take them for granted because someone, somewhere else is always going to try it on.

This has degenerated into Trump bashing ---- I think....

Anyway, it has degenerated enough for me to lock it.

I see the ACLU is not real happy with this censorship. FWIW.
