So I got my mdt chassis in and all assembled[ATTACH=CONFIG]17280[/ATTACH]
This thing is gonna take some getting used to. All assembled with bipod and suppressor and loaded mag its 12 pounds! I got the folding stock adapter and the mdt stock but I had to take the stock off and put on a ar stock and buffer that I had laying around the mdt stock with the adapter was too long but the adjustable ar stock works good. I gotta be honest I am not really a fan of the chassis so far but Ill give it its day in court. Hopefully Ill get to the range tomorrow

Mdt folding stock adapter is 8oz or half pound, a Harris 9-13 is 14 oz, the only way to fly is minimalist approach. Scopes and steel rings are killers also. Xlr folding stock adapter I have is 4.5 oz but I wont use it. Unnecessary weight.
Mine will be a little over 8 lb.
Ill post some more weights tomorrow but heres what I know offhand
Weaver low 1 rings 2.5 oz
Leupold 36mm objective vx3i or fxII 9-11 oz
Magpul ctr butt stock 9 oz
Carbine length buffer tube and castle nut 4.5 oz
Chassis 1 lb 13 oz
Magpul moe-K grip 1.8 oz
You cant do chassis with all that chunky fat gear imo

IMO the added weight and cost of the chassis isnt worth it unless you want to simply change the look and feel of the firearm. Maybe I just have a rifle that already shoots above average. Im not posting any for sale ads yet but if I do Ill let yall know.

You may want to go my route by firming up the Ruger stock with epoxy. I even thought of buying a small dowel rod made of HDPE and putting it in the epoxy bedding making sure the barrel still free-floated. (I just went with the epoxy). My stock is much better without too much added weight and it improved the accuracy along with the proper torqueing of the stock/action screws. It's lighter than a chassis stock but it did effect the balance. (I added weight to the buttstock to counter it). However, mine's the predator and that barrel is heavy. You may be fine with the ranch contour at 16 inches.

This guy has been running the mdt chassis on the 6.5 grendel rar for quite awhile. Couple reviews for you, i believe he mentions he also likes the c-products 10 rounders.

yup he does, 5 minute 17 second mark of second video, c-products 10 round mags are his favorite, i run these as well and very happy but in regular stock so far, mdt is behind on the chassis so doesn't sound like i'll get mine until February

Got mine a few months ago and have been playing with loads/rifle. Took a whitetail with it this year and honestly...while I know the stocks are tupperware basically...I have enough experience with the Ranch's in other calibers to know they still shoot great. If it bothers you, fine. But it's money wasted on accuracy on a chassis, ESPECIALLY for a 6.5 Grendel hunting gun. I did however wrap mine with a gunskins.com wrap (I suck at painting).

However...it really does feed like crap. And I have problems with the last round feeding. Reading this thread I'm going to try to do some polishing and I've always felt those mag springs were way too stiff for a bolt gun. Can't hurt to trim them down a bit and see what happens. Thanks for that advice!

Last one feeds fine if you dont go super slow and lazy like one often does on a bench. With any moderate meaning in the cycle it feeds fine, in hunting and defence situations it is a non-issue. Agree the spring is likely too stiff for bolt actions.

I cut a 10 round mag down to 5 with a dremel, sanded down the follower on the belt sander and cut the spring down little by little until it was perfect.it took a little time but its what I run in the gun now

Ended up picking up another Grendel ranch gonna put a light one together for the kiddos. Ordered a SWFA ultra light 2.5-10x32 with the BDC (9.5 oz) gotta keep the can on there to make all them Canadians jealous.......Should be around 8 pounds finished.[ATTACH=CONFIG]17609[/ATTACH] also heres my mdt chassis Grendel. I ended up cutting an inch and a half off the mdt stock buffer tube and tig welded it back together because the stock mounted on the folding adapter was way to long, even with all the spacers removed. Ive been hauling this set up out predator calling to remote locations only reached by a boat. So I need it to fit into my dry bag back pack folded with the can removed. I recommend picking one of these little rifles up totally worth the money. The chassis really isnt worth the money unless you really wanna utilize the benefit of concealing the rifle in a back pack or if scary assault weapons are outlawed in your neck of the woods and you need the next best thing to hang lights and lasers off of to give you an advantage. With what Ive seen and heard these guns shoot damn well with factory furniture and a $400 chassis doesnt have any job to do in improving accuracy. Ill leave the AR furniture for my ARs

I have some updates, pulled the rail off the RAR, it's 2.5 oz, replace that with 2.0 oz Talley 1" low rings. I'm going with Trijicon 3-9x40 accupoint green duplex at 13.4 oz, i've weighed the rings/scope together at 15.5 oz. Kenton makes speed dial turrets for these also so dial ups can happen when needed.
I had my machinest give the mdt chassis a bit of a diet but mdt is on the game, he was only able to get 3.0 oz out of it for me. MDT is milling out a fair bit of fat from the get go now.
So in modified chassis, with trijicon 3-9x40/talley 1" lows, magpul moe-k grip and ctr butt stock, strike industries buffer tube with generic castle nut, a magpul 3 slot rail for the light laser and ermo m-lok rail covers over 5 slots, i'm exactly 8 lb 2.5 oz scoped rifle (no ammo, no sling) and i can add my streamlight tlr-8 light/laser for additional 2.5 oz.
10 rounds of ammo adds 6.5 oz and i like blue force vickers slings 4 oz. That'd get me loaded down the trail at just a hair under 9 lbs with light/laser, 8.8 lbs without. I'm building duplicates for the kids except they won't get the chassis diets nor the light/laser combos so they will weigh exactly the same.
My previous scope was leupold fxII 6x36 and was 9.5 oz, plus 2.5 oz weaver low rings, plus the 2.5 oz factory rail....total 14.5 oz. If you just ran that scope in talley's you'd only be adding 12 oz to the rifle instead of 14.5...as it is i was able to go up to a 3-9x40 illum. reticle scope with the talley's for a 1 oz penalty, grand total 15.5 oz for the combo.
If you're obsessive about weight you can keep the chassis builds reasonable. I think the only other avenue to pursue beyond what i'm doing would be to flute the moderately heavy barrel and flute the bolt body, possibly hollow out the bolt handle. The barreled action on these little guys is pretty stout. 4 lb 4 oz without action screws or the rail (68 oz exactly). I'd wager you could drop close to half a pound with the fluting/hollow. Then you'd need to re-cerakote the barrel though.
I'm ok with the weights however, it's a good weight to shoot them well, keeps recoil very pleasant.
