I know this is an old thread/topic, but was curious if anyone had any updates? I dont need another rifle, but there are needs, and there are wants! And I want a 6.5 G. Primarily interested in accuracy and recoil levels of the Ruger. Any real difference between the Ruger Predator and the Ranch Rifle, other than the difference in barrel length? Any other info you can add would be greatly appreciated.

Other than the color and barrel length, theyre identical. If you want max performance, get the longer barrel Predator. If youre gonna hunt with a can, the shorter Ranch makes a lot of sense.
I have a Predator, and in the factory stock, I found it to be too nose heavy for my liking and chopped it down to 18. YMMV.
As far as recoil goes, it a soft shooter, even without a brake. Put one on and its like a .223 without!

For the nose heavy situation I found an easy remedy.
1. Remove the buttplate to access the hollow factory stock
2. Cut sections of garden hose to proper length to fit inside the stock. Reinforced hose with the black rubber lining works best.
3. Buy rubber stoppers at a hardware store to plug the ends of the hose sections.
4. Use rubber cement to glue 1 stopper into the hose section.
5. Fill hose section with lead shotgun shot.
6. Glue rubber stopper into open end of hose.
7. Cut and fill hose sections as necessary to balance rifle.
Granted, this method adds weight to the rifle but its as far back as you can get it and the extra weight mitigates a little bit of recoil. I have a RARR in 300 BLK that I use with a can and added 3 sections of hose into the stock to offset the 18oz of can hanging on the muzzle. With the can attached and the extra weight in the stock its a heavy little beast but it has about zero recoil. The pivot point of the rifle while carried is immediately in front of the magazine.
I agree with the 6.5 Grendel model being a soft shooter. Accurate as well. I'm liking the one I have a lot.

Yup! What dpete says above. If you are going to hunt with it, just be sure it's stand hunting or a stationary groundhog perch! The RAP is already heavy so adding even more weight creates less joy hauling it through laurel uphill! Ask me about it! :p

The RAP is as light an most any other bolt action out there unless it is one marketed as a "light" rifle. The thing that makes the Grendel RAP heavier is the AR mag stuffed with ammo. I have RAPs in .308, 22-250, 6.5 Grendel, & 6.5 Creedmoor. All are light rifles with the mag of the Grendel making the difference. All others are flush mags; wish the Grendel was, too!

Cant speak for the predator but the ranch is an excellent low cost accurate rifle. Mine consistently shoots well under 1 5 shot @ 100 metre groups with hand loads. IMR8208XBR is the most accurate powder in mine with 100grain ELD-M or 100 grain Nosler hunters. Low recoil, short handy rifle for my SxS or pickup gun. In Canada we cant have guns suppressed so it is loud and hearing protection is a must. I smoothed the action with grinding compound paste and cycled the action a few hundred times its now smooth as glass. No paste on locking lugs though. Also trimmed 1 coil off the trigger spring. One of my favourite guns at the moment.

The biggest "thing" that makes the RAP heavy is the long varmint barrel. I have 5 rounds loaded while hunting. With a Viper PST scope, the AR mag and 5 rounds and a sling, it is indeed heavier than "most" deer rifles that several camp full of hunters I shared seasons with in Pennsylvania use or have used in the past. I'm not knocking or bashing the RAP. I own one in Grendel and one in 223. The price verses accuracy point is the best value in the 6.5 Grendel and a few other calibers I'm sure. But a 24" heavy barreled rifle is NOT a mountainous-forested region big game gun for covering large distances. The Greatest Generation GI carried an M1 Garand everywhere with close to 100 lbs of pack & ammo in WWII and Korea. I'm amazed at how the GI's of old did it.
I'm a Boomer! When I hunt our mountains and ridges, either walking or driving for deer/bear, I go lite! If I stand hunt, the RAP or my 7mm08 heavy barreled 700 is with me.

Guess I got lucky and got a 22" standard contour barrel on my RAP. I don't consider it a varmint/heavy barrel. My RAPs are the lightest rifles I have; on par with my rimfire rifles and lighter than my .17's as they do have heavy barrels on them.
