6mm Ar H4895 600 yard testing - soloelcap - 05-20-2018
It seems like most of us shooting this wildcat are using loading information from 6mmAR.com and H4895 is one of Whitley's go to powders. I've been developing 6mm Ar/Grendel loads with H4895, Sierra 95's both, TMK and HPBT Match. I've had great results with this powder so far and want to share some of my results of the accuracy on target at 600 yards.
First the basics.
20" McGowen barrel .875 at the gas block, monster bolt
Hornady Brass weight sorted and neck turned (for better control of neck tension using a Redding FL bushing die).
Remington 7 1/2 primer
All bullets are BN coated
Powder is thrown
All 3 shot groups, first powder charge I shoot 5 to get some fouling going
Sierra 95 HPBT Match 2.300 Oal ( in my barrel )
Chrony results are AV SD ES

Next day I shot again and velocity changed for what ever reason, same powder. (why I never shoot loads at max, bad things will and do happen)

28. 2796 14 25 max so far, no pressure signs, primer pockets still tight, I think I can keep going as the groups and ES are getting smaller
All groups were sub MOA and some 1/2" or less, shot at 100 yrds with a 12X fixed scope.
5/19 I shot a NRA Mid Range Match, AR Prone (Tactical) 60 shots for record with 6 sighters. Score 587-20x, my best 10 shot string was 100-5x. Match conditions at our range can be crazy hard to figure out, we have berms down the sides and some up the middle to throw some vertical in. The wind in relay 2 was blowing the flags on both sides of the range at each other full value 3-5 mph and did a full 180 switch during relay 3. Any shot that wasn't in the 10 ring was a bad wind call or unseen change. I had no vertical stringing other than light changes and barrel heating up affecting vertical changes which was only a couple clicks over the match.
The 6mm AR/Grendel is a wicked wildcat for competition and H4895 works. Proof is in the score at 600 yrds. Matches are true accuracy testing.
