seems to me that a .35 cal 200gr - 225gr softpoint for a 35 Rem used on a Grendel sized case would make a good thumper

35 Gremlin Grendel case based.
The 358 Yeti is 308 case based. Search MDWS.
There are no ~$100 barrels that I have been able to find to just try.

I am a big 35Cal fan and looked VERY hard at the YETI. No real reason I did not go with it, other then my buddy & member here Dinny, cherpin' in my ear for over year about the Grendel.
Another is the 357AR. Its a FL 223 case blown straight. Shortened just a little. It approximates the 357MAX ballistics (& loading data) but from a AR.

I got a PM a few days ago from the maker of the 358 MGP where he said $425 shipped for barrel and dies.
This seems like the easiest option. Prices are not mentioned on his website any more.

You know a single shot break action 35 grendel for short range primitive gun season sounds just about right for next year.
That way I can stop useing that abortion rossi 35 wheelen on deer at 100 are less yards.
Wonder if I could get a encore chambered out like this hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

What would be needed to actually make a 35 Grendel, aka Gremlin in ar15 format?
1. 35 caliber AR blank barrel and reamer for 35 Grendel (Gremlin).
2. Grendel full length bushing sizing die drilled out to .357+.015+.015 = .387, .380 to .385 bushing for die.
I looked on Midway and bushings seem to max out at .368. Darn.
Thinking out side the box, how about a 357 mag carbide die to reform the neck and a Grendel body die to push back the shoulder?

Edit: You would also need a 35 caliber expander to make 35 cal from 6.5 mm. Maybe a few expanders to get there in steps.
It should work OK. Who could make the barrel on a group buy?
This could be the rebirth of the 35 Gremlin.

If someone does this do not forget handgun bullets as an option as well. Have some that shoot good in reduced loads for the 350 Remington Magnum, the old discontinues Nosler 180gr partitions are very deadly when used in a 35 cal rifle

What type of performance are you looking for with this?
Duplicate .35 Remington mv with 150gr, 200gr, and 225gr from an AR15?
Looking at the .35 Remington's SAAMI working pressure, I see that its MAP is 33,500psi for the first decade of the 20th Century actions like the Remington Model 8 semi-auto rifle.
With the Hornady 200gr FTX and its advertised .300 BC, at 2050fps you would get:
..0 2050fps 1866ft-lbs
50 1923fps 1642ft-lbs
100 1801fps 1441ft-lbs
150 1685fps 1261ft-lbs
200 1575fps 1102ft-lbs
Looks like a 150yd zero would work best, putting you 1.8" high at 100yds, and 4.8" low at 200yds.
A 16" 6.5 Grendel with 123gr SST passes it for energy at 175yds.
If you push the 200g FTX to 2100fps, then you will exceed 123gr SST ballistics to 200yds, but 123gr SST will pass it by 225yds.
If you have boxes of .357" pistol bullets for plinking, that could make it fun provided you have the brass to support that.

For me it would have to be on the TC line of single shot rifle's. Louisiana game rules for pritive season- exposed hammer and must be break action single shot.
I have a 35 wheelen rossi rifle now that is short and super light weight but that thing is snake bit and kicks like a mule.
I figure for short range work 100 or less the 35 grendel would be bout perfect for my primitive gun season needs. Still have a lil thump but not nearly as bad as the wheelen.
Already have plenty of grendel brass and cci 450 primers. Wonder if leverevolution powder would be a good powder to run it?
Was thinking of calling Redding monday and see if they could do me a custom neck sixer die and bullet seater die for it.

Would be a cool little cartridge but for deer inside 100 yards I prefer my Marlin 1894 357 Mag. In the MS ML season I use an H&R 44 Mag.

The 358 MGP is getting 2500 fps with a 180gr bullet. This is a 6.8 SPC case so the pressure would be 55K psi not 50K psi as with the Grendel case.
This would be a short range woods cartridge suited for Eastern US type hunting with better than 35 Rem ballistics from an AR15.
It really is not meant to compete with 6.5 Grendel for long distance.
Probably the easiest way to get this type of cartridge would be to just buy the 358MGP barrel with dies.

No need to expand necks on 6.5 Grendel brass, Starline is making Grendel basic brass. Just straight brass with no headstamp on it. Now you have me wondering about this round.....

Must be the wheelen in general. The one I use kicks worse than anything else I shoot. If it hits something though, it's lights out son

Yea it kicks very bad. But it's just a cheap crap rifle, it has had problems with function since the day I took it out the box.
Waiting on blueberry barrels to contact me back tommorw about ordering a 35 grendel barrel. Then next month some dies and load work up this summer.
