I am very interested in doing a bolt-action 6.5 Grendel. Done a lot of research on the Howa and CZ both seem to be decent options with the Howa being the better of the two. During my research I came across the Uintah precision bolt action and that seems like the best option out of all three. I say that because by the time I buy the Howe action, chassis and upgraded trigger I don't see any cost savings. This is a gun that I would use for 1000 + yards.
Would love to hear any opinions and suggestions on this subject.
I was/am also interested in the Uintah but everytime I try to go to their website my virus protection says it's a phishing site and blocks me from going there.

I built a Gibbz side charger to use as a straight pull and blocked off the gas, just for the novelty really...I live in a free state. So, I think this is a cool concept. However, my understanding of accuracy in the AR platform is that the lock time is a drawback, all else being equal, which would make this setup inherently less accurate than a bolt gun.

Unintah (Upper only: you have to have lower to mate it to) is $1088.00 with any lower. If you have to buy a lower with a good trigger and good stock add another $500 to $700.

The Howa doesn't require an upgrade trigger just a Gunbloke trigger spring. About $20.00 shipped from Australia
Now we come to the crux of the matter. Whatever the cost differences are, and they favor the Howa not an AR like platform, if your really looking for a 1k yd+ cartridge the 6.5 Grendel is not it. Yes, it will reach 1k yds and a little more if the wind isn't blowing too hard. It's much easier to accomplish 1k yds and then some with any of the following: 6.5x47, 6.5 Creedmoor, 260 Remington.
I could launch a 130 gr Berger AR Hybrid (G1 BC 0.56 G7 BC 0.287) in my 6.5x47 Lapua custom to 2852 FPS (26" barrel), and 2905 FPS from my .260 Remington 20" barrel Tikka. On a good day you might eek out 2450-2500 FPS for the same Berger bullet from a 6.5 Grendel. The Grendel is a great little round, with emphases on the "little". And it makes a good marginal 1k + yd cartridge with emphasis on the "marginal".
Buy what you want, but if a steady 1k yds plus is really your goal, looking beyond the Grendel is the smart move.
Sorry I haven't got back to this threat earlier but things have been a little crazy. But my super interest in the Grendel Uintah Precision is the fact that I already have brass and all the reloading dies plus.I also understand that a Creedmoor and other calibers do shoot a lot flatter and further but that requires me to buy more reloading dies and brass. Plus I think the challenge would be worth it. Also where I live I'm only going to shoot 800 to 1000 yards. I also live in a free state but have plenty of arm's just interested in a bolt gun. There will be one of these at our house Thursday. I'll post a pic here after I mount the scope. Keep in mind that I am building it for my wife when you see it. She shoots with me, both smokeless and BPCR rifles (black powder cartridge rifle, ie: not a front stuffer). I picked out the Grendel to get her more trigger time before moving on to the .308 and 6.5 PRC rifles that are hers.
My buddy has a Uintah Precision 6.5 Creedmoor. As with any firearm, rigidity of the platform is key. He is a gunsmith by trade, was one of Gander Mountain's smiths before they consolidated all work into one location. He has a machine shop at home and made super tight action pins. They have to be tapped in with a hammer. NOT MASHED in, tapped in.
The gun is locked together tight. I have shot it, its very accurate, he has dinged a 18"x18" square at a mile over and over.
I am taking a slightly different path, but still the same. Years ago, I had bought some J.P. Enterprise split pins. They lock the receiver halves together really tight by tension.
This will be a dedicated bolt gun, with only the Uintah upper for it.
The upper arrived today. This is a cool piece of hardware. Uintah machined it to such tight tolerances, that I don't need to use the JP split pin. There is absolutely no play/rattle between the 2 halves. Tomorrow I will level the scope and work on getting a picture for you all to see.

Sorry not the best background, but it has been raining a lot, so I wasn't able to setup a good outdoor shot.
The brass will be here tomorrow. I have some powder, but going to look for a different type so I can get velocity without having
to run maximum charges. Also the choice of powder affects barrel life.
I put a 20 moa rail on it. If the scope doesn't get me the needed adjusted for 1000 yards, I will put another scope on it for MK. Probably
another Sightron SIII LR 6x24x50 with a MOA-H reticle. These particular Sightrons (6x24x50) have 100 moa internal adjustment.
Looks awesome...I ordered this same upper yesterday in 6.5 Grendel...Can't wait to get it...

I seriously looked at these uppers before I bought my Howa. I am using a Triggertech trigger in my lower so I contacted them about my trigger to see if the bolt would function properly without any modifications and they said that I was going to have to grind one side of the hammer that faces the firing pin in order for the bolt to clear. I decided that I didn't want to grind on my hammer as that would have voided my trigger warranty so I bought the Howa instead. I was disappointed because I really like this design.
