A Ruger American model for AR mags is a "Future Release".

Dumb question Is the Ruger American magazine system attached to the stock or to the action? Going from rotary mag to the Ar could be as simple as changing stocks could it?

The Ruger American with AR mags is a done deal and available now. I have one in hand. The AR bottom piece is a detachable one that (probably) fits into the space originally occupied by the rotary-style bottom piece. Screws hold it in the bottom of the plastic stock.
Haven't shot it yet (other things in front of it) but the AR fit-up looked fine. An AR-mag release (same piece as for an AR lower) is also built into that removable piece.

Boyd's also has an AR-mag version of their stocks for the RAP's with AR mags. Will probably be my path if the regular stock won't work for me.

OK I was wondering if a Grendel stock would work on a 7.62x39 Ranch rifle?

I purchased the Sharps Bros “Heatseeker” modular chassis for the Ruger American short action Grendel. It uses a modified AICS magazine. The standard plastic chassis had a lot of flex and chambering a round was hit and miss with the AR mag. I also look forward to being able to load long and not have the 2.26 mag length restrictions. I’ll get back to you on how it works out.
