Barrel nut conversion

I dont know how to take this. I ordered a prefit from prefered barrels on 4-29 . After several emails it still hasn’t shipped . Everytime I would get a response, they say just two more weeks. So are they this pathetic normaly , or am I just lucky?????? I needed it for a hi-power hunter silhouette build . Not gona be this year, even though nationals cancelled. Still wanted to get some load development done in the heat.

Not quite sure about pathetic, I ordered mine on 4/24 have had several emails detailing progress and it is scheduled to be delivered today, just a little over 90 days.

90 days is a long time when qoute was5-6 weeks. And they never sent me an update, I always had email. Guess your alot more easy going than me! Mine is just machined not flutted or muzzle threaded

Ram,

You can cancel the order and ask for your money back (and cope with fallout if they refuse), or you can cut them some slack during a global pandemic. Wouldn't be the first time gunsmithing takes more time than a shooter would prefer. It's just a time delay, they haven't reneged or sent you rubbish. A bit of give and take - smell the roses.

Oh I'm not that easy going but I did realize that when I ordered I had to click that little box acknowledging that the build time could be 4-5 s weeks OR LONGER. I am sure you had to do the same thing. Now I admit that the first page of the web site says 4-5 week turnaround probably pre-pandemic but they did include that little CYA at check-out. I did suggest to them they need to alter that claim on the home page.
BTW my barrel also was not fluted or threaded or painted or whatever.

I clicked on the thread thinking it was about some technical data on barrel nuts.

Turns out irs a rant thread because someone is impatient.

I don’t usually comment on such threads, but, I ordered one 4-30-20. That is three people that we know of just on this forum days apart.

I picked up a lathe a couple of years ago. I had an XP action I decided to do as a project. My mentor, good friend, hunting buddy is a tool and die maker with a lot of knowledge that has helped and encouraged me. We chambered this barrel and I have to say I will never get mad over time with a smith again. I had an extractor put in a bolt after that. I said I wasn’t in a hurry but it took longer than I figured. But, it wasn’t his bread and butter for the shop either. Did a fantastic job btw.

The old saying, good-fast-cheap, you only get to pick two.
Turn around times are a rough estimate. Some sooner some later.
I myself look forward to getting my new one and have another one in the works with them.

Glad I saw this, I’ve been on the verge of ordering a drop in 6mm ARC barrel from them. Not now, no way. Twice as long as quoted, and then no explanation, apology or the offer of a refund? Stuff happens, I get it but they should have contacted you with the reason for the delay. It’s a 2 minute email. If that’s too much trouble for them to keep their customers in the loop, I don’t want do business with them. Having to constantly make inquiries is a red flag for me.

Thanks for the heads up.

This is exactly why I don't take pre-orders or any money up front. My production times have been skewed pretty badly due to recent events and I don't want to leave anyone hanging.

I got my barrel after UPS took two extra days to deliver it 31 miles. The barrel looks good, machining nice and clean, well packaged and bore-scopes well. I won't be able to shoot it for a while so the important analysis still remains. My dealings and communication with the company have been good, the length of delivery time is stated in the order process and one can opt out before the order is placed. If this barrel shoots I've got a couple more in mind. Just my take.

Maybe I shouldn’t post this since others ordered ahead of me. I got a confirmation that my barrel is in the mail.
The may or may not do these in batches that are caliber specific.

This is my first with Prefered Barrels, how ever I have done business with MGM and Virgin Valley prior to that.

Those that want answers, have you asked or emailed them?

I sent a polite and to the point of my question before I went on a prairie dog hunt. I got a fairly quick response in return.

I get it that it is ones hard earned dollar, and you will spend it where you see fit. Buddy of mine ordered a custom rifle, it went from the 6-8 months to over 18 months. Happy, yeah for a short time. Wouldn’t do better than about 21/2”@100, tried several loads. Sent it back and it was rebarreled, 7 day total turn around. It is a heck of a rig for the money and he has ordered another one.
