Thiers a rumor going around about a 6.5 ar15 round that can hit 3000fps with a 123 pill. Anyone have info on it?

3000 might be a stretch, but of one was to neck down the 30 Rem AR, (2850 from a 125 30 cal projectile) or the 7mm Valkyrie/270AR (uses single stacked 6.5x47L brass) 2800-2900 would be very practical.

Came to post this, but even with FoS, .458 SOCOM brass isn't rated to anywhere near those pressures, unless I missed something.

I get 2900fps from a 22" .260 Remington pushing 123gr.

Hodgdon's max load data for 123gr SMK is 2937fps from a 24" .260 Rem.

I know some guys that wildcatted the 458 SOCOM down to 6.5mm, did all kinds of things, ran into all kinds of problems. They got insane speeds, but something was wrong and it was scrapped last I had heard.

Remington missed the boat by making the .30 RAR .30 caliber. Should have been 270 RAR, 6.5 RAR, and .257 RAR, with an urge to get the industry to dust off the .257 projectiles.

That .30 RAR would be an interesting case to work off of, understanding that mags are single stack at that point.

25 WSSM does a number on deer from my bolt action. If wanting more than the Grendel, WSSM seems like an obvious move.

Bolt face thrust is a limiting factor.
As cartridges increase in diameter bolt face thrust increases so working pressure must drop to maintain safety. Thus the large bore cartridges are lower pressure in the AR15.

Based on total bolt face thrust of 6200 lbs., the Timberwolf would be limited to 35K psi.
Does quickload provide ballistics based on a maximum pressure?

The Timberwolf is the brainchild of Mad Dog Weapons. He does good work. I have a Wolverine and the hard hitting Yeti.

The Timberwolf is still in development and I believe it is based on 6mm Norma Dasher brass with a 43 grain case capacity. Initial testing showed 2950fps at the muzzle with a 123gr pill. Looks to be capable of 85-140gr projectiles.

Double radius shoulder/neck like a Weatherby. BIGDAWG is using Dasher brass. Like a Weatherby-shaped 6.5 Dasher.

This round in the short action Howa's and Rugers would be awesome. Maybe Ruger could build barrels and sponsor it like Federal did with Valkyrie. Looks to be the end of the line for short action cartridges so it should be brought into the light.
