16" Barrel?

For me personally.., I find AR's with barrels longer than 16" to be very front heavy and akward.
How does the 6.5 Grendel perform with 16" barrel?

Really depends on what your intended purpose. My first 6.5 Grendel was a 16” set up just like my duty rifle which was a 16 carbine gas length 5.56/223. I currently have four AR-15’s in 6.5 Grendel, 2 sixteen inch, 1 eighteen inch and 1 twenty inch 6.5 Grendel.

The 16” 6.5 Grendel can be used for hunting up to 400 yards depending on bullet/load used. The 16” 6.5 Grendel can be used for rifle matches, CQB and target shooting. I’ve shot my non free floated 16” barrel 6.5 Grendel out to 800 yards. I ran out of elevation and had to use my mildot scope to get on target. My 16” 6.5 Grendel had produced less than 1 MOA groups at 600 yards with factory A-Max. I normally shoot at 450’ ASL and will eventually get a 20 MOA mount for this 16” 6.5 Grendel.

I took some pictures of my 16”, 18” and 20” AR-15 6.5 Grendel AR-15 to show the differences. I also attached a link to chronograph results for 16”; 18”, 20” and 24” AR-15’s in 6.5 Grendel.

Well, there is nothing wrong with a 16 inch barrel. It is a pretty handy size. But on my build, I went with a long 24 inch barrel in order to eek out a little more muzzle velocity with mine. I wanted to use it more for target shooting than hunting per se.

I built a 16" Grendel last year and was able to take a good size doe with it at around 190 paces during hunting season. It is a very pleasant rifle to shoot.
