I have two BCA Grendel platforms, one 16" and the other 20". Both are right side charging handles and I love them.

What is your go to bullet weight most of you guys use? Any thoughts on where to get brass and what are your thoughts on using 7.62x39 brass?

Welcome to the clan, gf, from the great nation of Texas! Some ( many ? ) of us have done the 7.62 thing. It is a great standby source. It does appear that ready-made's and real brass are coming back to store shelves near you ( and the rest of us ). Just in the last week or so, the Cabela's in Allen, TX had several dozen boxes. Yes, they are not back to the same price point they once were but progressing in that direction. Most of my Grendels have done quite well with 123 gr Hornady's.

Welcome to the forum giff! There was a thread a few days ago in the reloading section Lapua brass was in stock. You can watch Starline brass web site they open their back order for 6.5 Grendel frequently. If you put in a back order it usually ships within a week or two. It appears Hornady may have just released some brass as it was showing up in stock at a few places.


I used 7.62x39 brass fire formed to 6.5 Grendel. It will work but it is not really worth the expense as you get so few reloads with x39 brass. It is better and cheaper in the long run to use 6.5 Grendel brass. I’ve used the large rifle primer PPU 6.5 Grendel brass which varies in quality from lot to lot. The newer small rifle primer PPU 6.5 Grendel brass appears to be better quality. Federal brass does not hold up as well as Lapua, Hornady or Starline 6.5 Grendel brass. Remington sold a little 6.5 Grendel ammunition and reports are the Remington 6.5 Grendel brass was decent. There have been no reports on Remington 6.5 Grendel ammunition since being bought by Vista Outdoors.

I found the thread on the Lapua brass which was posted on 1-19-222. I checked the link and the brass is now sold out. If you find brass in stock you better order as quickly as possible as 6.5 Grendel brass sells out very quickly.

Thanks for the welcome to the Forum, and thanks for the advice on brass. Will keep looking online and in our local shops in town. Will keep an eye out for 123 grain bullets. Presently I have a bunch of 140 grain JHP bullets I was able to get off of GunBroker.com

Do you Anneal your brass? Thanks for the information on sources and brands of brass - well noted.

I have not annealed any of my brass. I’ve experienced no split necks on my brass and I have some Hornady and Lapua brass that has been loaded five times or more. As long as your AR-15 is not over gassed and you don’t load over max charges Lapua and Hornady brass last ten or more reloads using a good sizing dies. It has been reported some users with Lee 6.5 Grendel sizing die get reduced case life because the Lee sizing die over works the brass.

Thanks for the information, it helps I've been geting split necks on my Starline brass after one loading. Maybe I am loading too hot. Using RCBS dies.
