Howdy y’all,

Got into the Grendel recently with buying a BCA upper as a from me to me b’day gift. Not new to reloading or AR’s. Been reloading since ‘82 and AR’s in calibers other than 556/223 since ‘04. This rifle is going to be the most expensive to feed on the range as components are crazy expensive compared to my others. Waiting on bullets and brass to arrive and then assemble some rounds. I am also waiting on a replacement barrel from Wilson Combat, but it is on back order.

None of my rifles are used for pure paper punching but with the current component shortage the only bullets I could find are the Sierra 120gn and the Hornady 129gn. As most of my hunting is done at ranges rarely exceeding 150 yards these should work fine.

Other MSR’s I load and use are:

Large frame
375 Raptor
358 Winchester
308 Winchester
260 Remington

Small frame
458 Socom
450 Bushmaster
30 HRT
300 HAMR
7.62x40 WT
300 BLK
5.56MM

The wealth of information here is testament of this cartridge and it is partly to blame for me getting into it.

I’m not weird, I’m eccentric, deal with it .

Welcome to the clan, BD, from another south Texas Riiver rat. Grew up in Brownsville, escaped in1968 to work in Austin.

You have an interesting collection / assortment. Too bad, when you start playing with the Grendel, most of the others will be forgotten. If you don't already have 'em, pick up copies of Vol's 1 and 2 of the Grendel Handbook. There is a thread in all this somewhere on who presently is sourcing 'em.

I will never forget the other weird/different cartridge combinations. Before I immigrated to the great state of Texas I had little options but now I find myself with the challenge, “what rifle to head out for to do this hunt?”

If it is T-Rex I will take my 458 Winmag, often I use it if the game is unknown, overkill is a stupid concept!

I really appreciate the comments and we agree to disagree when things get complicated…

That is good to know as the eye watering price I paid for 200 Lapua’s puts this cartridge into a different league. I have converted brass, still do, before but I don’t have the time or inclination, and taking the advice from members here, to do it for this cartridge.

I have not bought any factory center fire ammo for many years but the single box of 20 that I got shocked me to the new reality that others know and face.
